Post drone vid on youtube, get regulated by FAA
Youtube vids are considered "commercial" use of drones, and thus your drone is subject to more stringent regulations for commercial drones.

The FAA has recently decreed that all "sUAS" must be registered in order to fly in the national airspace. This includes all RC model aircraft and 'drones' that weigh more than 1/2lb. Their definition, as written, even includes kites, if they weigh more than 8oz... This new regulation is in direct defiance of a law passed by Congress in 2012 stating that the FAA shall make no regulation of 'model aircraft' flown for 'hobby' purposes.

How do you post a video clip of a low humming sound?
Seems to me that an MP3 clip would work just fine and use way less bandwidth. My response to the FAA would be along the lines of: I'm sorry, I don't own a "drone" or an "unmanned aerial vehicle". I do, however, own a remote control helicopter which doesn't fall under the purview of your regulation authority. Thank you for trying, and have a nice day. Drone: A low humming sound. Unmanned Aerial Vehicle: An aircraft which has had its manning requirement or capability removed, suggesting that its capability was derived from needing a man in the first place. (Example: before the first "manned" space mission, pilotless space missions were simply called "space missions". It wasn't until after piloted space missions became common that pilotless space missions became known as "unmanned space missions". To date, I don't recall any time period in which it was common to send pilots up in the air in small hobby aircraft weighing in at a few pounds or less. "Unmanned aerial vehicles" was a term popularized by the department of defense to define a full sized combat aircraft capable of executing missions where such aircraft were previously only flown in a "manned" configuration.) |
Sounds like the FAA needs more funding.
