Problems really do come in threes....

So I was sick with an earache 3 weeks ago. Cost me 200$ to get better (had to go back 3 times, 3 antibiotics, and a painkiller).

Then my car breaks, coilpack is 349$ new at advanced auto. I have to take a roadtrip home friday so it looks like I'm taking the plunge (p.s. I'm 90% sure its a leaking coilpack)

And now, my computer hd breaks. Its squeeling like a madman and freezing like whoa. Its also midterm week and all my notes are on there. I can't get it working long enough to make a backup. God knows how much that will cost to fix.

Moral of the story: college budgets are impossible to keep, I need a job, complaining doesn't make the pain go away and posting from my phone makes my hands hurt.

Good lord, you typed that up on a phone? I hope its a phone with a full keyboard. Even then I would have given up at "cost me $200". Sorry about your luck. Hope it gets better for you.

i feel for you. Shit does tend to all go to fuck at the same time...

They do come in 3's. I was happy when my third failure was a cooling fan as I already had a spare.

Buy a used coilpack though, fuck 350 for a new one. I paid 250 for a new one for my NB and it rides in the trunk not being used now. Couldn't get but maybe 50 bucks for it so I figure I'll just keep it. Look around and get a coilpack used and shipped quick or something. Shit, post a NEED TO BUY ad and someone here that carrys a spare will surely send it to you on the quick.

+ a million to college budgets suck.

Sorry to hear it man. Take a second and fill out your sig, what year is your car?
I might have an extra '99 coil pack if you can make it work...

naarleven 03-01-2009 09:08 PM

Yeah i have a full qwerty and wifi on my phone thankfully. My car is a 94', appreciate the help but I need to get it local and asap. Id rather payout and have it tomorrow. Maybe a sob story when I get home for spring break will get me some sympathy from the rents. Worse comes to worse, might get my dad to temporarily cover the coils. The rest I can do myself.

P.s. yes I need to fill out my sig

Order your coil pack form finishline performance, they are like 115$ there.

I have one from a '93, will that work? I sell it to you dirt cheap, just pm me

Midterm week FTL. These days just aren't long enough.

samnavy 03-01-2009 10:21 PM

Shit... when I bought my $200 motor, it came with one, and when I switched to COP's, I then had 2 lying around. I gave them both away for free. You're in FL? There's gotta be a junkyard near you with a rotting Miata in the back somewhere. Don't pay $350, that's crap. If you want one overnighted, call Finishline...also check PlanetMiata if there are no junkyards near you.

naarleven 03-01-2009 11:16 PM

Ordered from finish line, it was 160$ total and they say it will be here weds. Much better than 350$!

When I tried to turn on my computer again after fiddling with the HD, it says "Operating System Not Found". Fuck me. Thankfully I keep most my important documents & music on my external HD. I think I saved my midterm notes on there so I can check them with my roommates computer.

And +1million on Midterm week ftl

Rx amoxicillin for ear infections = $2. Too bad you aren't in CA.

Throw in, I'm hxc allergic to amoxicillin. I have to take expensive alternatives.

don't pay to get your computer fixed, just remove your old hard drive, put in a new one and reinstall it's very simple screwdriver work. a nice hard drive on newegg is around $80. you can hook your old one up as a secondary, so that maybe on the new hard drive and install you can see the contents of it and save some stuff. $0.02

I had to pay for data recovery services, I had to have my docus off that comp, and I can't do that when the drive is frozen.

Ended up being 200 some odd dollars out the door. Finally have my comp back.

Guess I'm too late, but I was going to suggest putting the hard drive in the freezer overnight, then pulling it out, spinning it up as a slave, and quickly grabbing your essential data. From your description, it sounds like a spindle bearing, and that's a pretty common and effective fix.
