Default My sense of speed is thoroughly ruined.

My dad is replacing his 3rd gen Rx7 with an '04 E46 M3. He brought the new M home on Saturday, and we just traded cars for a short drive. It was peppy, but it didn't have anywhere near the ridiculous level of torque my car has.

I also drove an acquaintance's '07 STI (I said "give me the keys") and that felt a little lackadaisical in 2nd and especially third.

You know you're jaded when you're 18 and you think M3s and STIs are slow. :(

ya i was lucky to have it broken to me over a few years. I didnt get into cars until I was 20 and I thought that toyota celicas and mercury cougars were fast lol. I literally didnt know ****. After buying a wrx and tuning it a little bit I realized that even those weren't rediculously fast but still thought that STIs were some amazing untouchable machine ... that is until I got my miata boosting around 10 and realized that a turbo miata is pretty quick but I am starting to get used to this power too. I will stop chasing power after I can get 15psi steadily with a nice tune. Then I suppose Im just gonna clean up the car and enjoy it ... lol, ya right ... Ill end up buying dedicated slicks for autocross, even better suspension, multiple alignments and on and on and on i bet it will never end.

cool. I'm either driving my miata, or a 8 second race car my daddy owns or is trying to sell...so someone has to make a few passes at the strip for the sale. i don't really compare the two, and I think i'll still get the giggles in the miata when i get around to putting it together.

I don't know what it's pushing right now; that was at 13psi. it's around 14.5-15psi right now with a bigger T25, so I'd figure 220ish.

I've been in "fast", 400rwhp G35 sedan, Noble M12, BMW M6 (actually the M6 felt slow compared to the G). I've yet to experience a serious horsepower Miata, like 250-300.

And then I think about Top Fuel dragsters and my head just starts to spin. If you only go to watch one racing event live in your life, go watch an NHRA event at night. The sheer power of those things is ******* absurd. No joke, we were 20 rows back on the starting line and my vision went blurry when they launched and went through the first 1/8 mile.

Double-edit: When my dad got the Rx7, he told me I would never, ever drive it alone. Now that my car is faster than his, and he's driven my car on-track, he's a lot more willing to throw me his keys.

better go for 300 rwhp. 250 doesn't seem fast to me anymore. It's not fast if I can still floor it occasionally.

I dont think I've let my dad drive my car since it got the turbo...

My dad had 500 whp+ cars and 1L+ bikes all my life, so I was never impressed with the other kiddies' cars. A 260 hp 5.0 with Flows and a 4.10 or a Civic SI never did nuttin for me; everyone else thought they were the ****.

My first car had a 7.5L V8, made 400 hp and 500 ftlbs through a smooth as butter 3 speed auto. Actually, almost everything since has been some what of a disappointment torque wise in comparison. My V8 powered E class is STRONG from a roll. When that ****** is running. It sucks up $1000 bills like they're going outta style.

Damn I want to get my miata turbo'd/ get a ride in someone else's. It's hard to believe that a miata can make an e46 or STI feel slow. Hell I was thinking about getting rid of my miata for an e36 m3, maybe not now.

Dammit Savingtion, why are you in the bay area!?! This forum seems to be very east coast. Why are there so many atl people on here? Are you guys just that much cooler?

dude theres probably a ton of boosted miatas down in LA, but we just attract a small portion of that population. Most of the guys who buy already sorted kits who dont care to completely understand it and just want to drive are not the type to post here. We are a DIY and occasionally ghetto crowd and I bet that turns away some people. I say put a want a ride post up on here, clubroadster, and miata.net for a turbo miata with 210-240hp and i bet you get a ride within a few weeks.

Heh, thats what I like about this forum, if you want to know about something you don't just get somebody's opinion, you actually learn about what you want to know from people who know their ****.

And thanks for the suggestion, I think I'll give CR a try as they seem to have a strong socal following. I guess the best thing to do would be to get a ride in a 200whp miata, then a 240 or so and see if that is what I'm looking for. Although I think I already know the answer to that... POWER!!!

you got a 97, so 240 is easier to reach than with the 1.6 that many of us guys run.

I was let loose in a 570 whp 996 turbo the other day. Holy ******* ****. I need to be in something with a 10:1 weight to power ratio or better to even get a good feeling anymore...

If you've never been in a turboed Miata, 200rwhp will put a big grin on your face. 240rwhp will probably scare the crap out of you.

I put out a request for a ride on cr.net, so we'll see.
