About ten years ago I was at Mosport for the first and last Mosport 24 - a street stock race sanctioned by the now defunct "Sportscar". Truly an awesome experience even if it did go down to 38f that night in July. One of the more memorable images from the race was a Supra that went off at turn 3 on the outside, flipped over the tire barrier and stopped somewhere against a tree after an nice endo/roll. The car was brought back to the pits where the crew converged upon it (unknown to most at the race). Then the next morning I heared over the radio that the crew was seeking tech's permission to resume racing! That car reentered the course and continued on to a podium finish in class- just because they never quit (and a lot of other cars in the class broke or crashed). You could hear people applauding around the track as the car made the final lap. Never say die. :D

At an autocross event someone driving an older Civic popped their transmission. They had it changed out and back on course for the next set of runs. Maybe not as impressive as this but he had a much smaller racing budget ;)

damn...thats some awesome teamwork right there...that body is toast too, I'd be surprised if the car would make it past 60 MPH...lol

that autocross story is actually quite impressive, how the hell does someone swap a tranny in that ammount of time?

Back in '05 I had a kart with a single-speed 125cc Italian race motor that would rev (albeit unreliably) to 17,000rpm and beyond. I was up at Sears Point testing on a Wednesday for the race that weekend (Sat/Sun), and my dad noticed that our frame had cracked a seat strut. We had the motor and seat out within an hour, and dropped the frame off at the factory in San Francisco that afternoon. On Friday, after UPS arrived with a couple of parts we had to have for the race at 6pm, we raced up to the factory, picked up the kart at 7, and arrived at the track at 8pm. We set up shop in the paddock, and worked for 2 hours re-assembling the kart until it became so cold and foggy neither of us could see or move our hands. We were back at the track at 6:30 buttoning up the electronics and chain drive, and we made the 8am practice session.

I've also changed an axle in 30 minutes, swapped motors in 45 minutes, and driven half a lap holding my right front tire.

now by the next set of runs how much time are we talking?

Maybe a little over 90 minutes.
