lolz at stuck up bro's that defend stupid house pricing to live in a "cool" part of the country that they can't afford to enjoy.

Keep being poor, while I live in a cheap part of the country that allows me to enjoy the "nice" parts of "expensive" places (in the US and abroad) while still paying my house off by 40 and putting double-digits into my 401k.

Ive got a buddy with a 3300sq ft house on 23 acres and a 8200 sq. ft garage with hydraulic lift and paint booth for $58k. It needed a new roof and an HVAC unit. It's on well water and he sold some of the timber for $20k to offset the home repairs and remodeling.

My house is about 1200 Sq.Ft., and cost me $73k back in 1986. I paid it off in 20 years, and interest rates were 11% back then.
Back in Carlsbad where I used to live, 900 ft^2 would probably start around $500k inland, $700k near the beach. Here in NYC, it'd be upwards of $1m. The ~650 ft^2 apartment I lived in last year in Hoboken is now listed at $3k, and on Manhattan, it'd be nearer $4k.

Presently researching homes in the suburbs, and I must admit that I'm looking at 2000-2500 ft^2 homes listed at $400-$500k and thinking "holy crap, that's downright cheap!"

Housing prices, like all commodity prices, adjust to meet demand. In places where vacancy rates are extremely low and income is extremely high, housing costs are high. In places such as the one Six mentioned, where everyone is poor and you are located a great distance from major centers of commerce and industry, housing costs are very low.

Also, this is a random picture thread.

I've got 5,000 sq. ft and a 2,000 sq. ft shop. Paid the princely sum of $22,000 for it. I don't have a lift, but I do have a belltower.

actually... over 500k. Our agent says it will sell quickly in the low sixes. even in winter. We are close to metro and awesome beer supplies as well as good restaurants. and this is the "burbs".

Speaking of Dakar... Back in the 80s, there was this:

O Sitio do R5 - Leotard 6x6
Les 6 roues - oto6
