Yesterday, I was at the Home Depot on 59th St in Manhattan.
On the -0.5th floor, they had a toilet on display, inside a glass case on a pedestal. This is the toilet:

Yeah, he would have had to be British. They bombed at night to reduce their bomber crew losses. The Americans bombed during the day to improve accuracy, but put our aircrews at much greater risk. But RAF Bomber Command had already lost so many crews prior to our entry in the war it was staggering. During the war they had 58,000 KIA in the bomber crews alone.
The US lost 28,000 air crew personnel just in Europe and just in the ~2 years we were actively engaged in bombing there. That doesn't count the ground troops, Navy, or the entire Pacific theater.
