Because making a car go fast and handle well is relativly easy for a small private owned company or (given that there are reasonably available components to build from and room within the law) even a thorough car enthusiast. This is also the reason the interior in my -99 BMW looks exactly the same as my buddies -05. That and that the German people are absolutly terrified of change in any shape or form. (For proof on this therory, I point towards the nearest 911.)
