My first thoughT: "Who on earth has enough time to make a chair like thaT?"
My subsequent thought, upon reflectioN: "That guy looks like exactly the sort of persoN."

It is obvious to me that all of these things are chairs.
Yet how can I explain this to a computer?

Anything that can be sat upon by me, is a chair. For me, as used low profile tire, a counter top, milk crate, and a skateboard, is a chair. The definition of a chair is only a definition to the user. I also have no idea about how to explain that abstract thought to a computer. I know there's 1s and 0s, magic happens, and I have pornography.
I'm running a mesh chair made for a gazeebo as my computer chair. 30 bucks vs 400 bucks for a computer chair.. The mesh is roughly the same quality and just as comfortable.

Easy, you didn't always know those things were chairs, either; you had to be told or observe someone sitting in them at some point. They may not look exactly like chairs you've seen, but they are very similar. You've seen stools, modern and minimalist chairs, so you can make an association. You do the same thing with a computer. Feed it pictures of some different chairs and make associations of what a high back, a stool, etc. are. Algorithms to make those types of associations are out there already.
