Got rear ended on the way to Thanksgiving dinner yesterday. Sitting at a red light, minding our own business and ... BAM!
Our trailer hitch took the brunt of it, but her bumper collapsed enough from the impact that she still made contact with our bumper and bent it.
I'm hoping I'm just looking at a new draw bar, ball and bumper, but it will be next week before I can get it looked at. Fortunately, she has insurance... and she got a ticket.
I'm very thankful that when I looked at the hitch yesterday morning, thinking about pulling it, that I decided to be lazy and left it on there. I'm doubly thankful we decided to take the dually instead of the ZL1...

Yowsa.
That much damage to her bumper would make me want to take the vehicle to a body shop and have whatever part of the chassis your hitch attaches to checked for straightness against the dimensions in the shop manual.

We have a super beefy 20k hitch setup because we have a slide in camper and have to run a hitch extension. It adds on to the factory receiver, so there's essentially double the structure there.
I laid a straightedge along all the straight parts this morning, and it looks good, but you can bet I'll be getting it checked out... drawbar and ball are going in the trash, not taking any chances they were compromised.
I'm more worried about my wife, who's had two neck surgeries in the past, and is still sore today. We'll be getting that checked out as well...

Oww. The zl1 would have not liked that hit.
z71 has one of those weather tech step / bumper thing for the trailer hitch. I feel like that could take a good hit. But man, if I ever get hit in the Miata or SS it's game over.
