On each of these drones, you can see several retroreflective markers. I recognize these because I've used a Vicon motion capture system quite a bit. These are accurate to the millimeter, and usually update at 120 fps.
Who knew.

So, obviously I'm home with a cold today. Lots of free time.

Came across this one:

First thought was "wow, that's quite an impressive engineering accomplishment," but then when the lasers and destruction started happening, I shifted to "Ok, that's amazingly good CGI, but I was really hoping that the robots were real, so this is kind of a let-down."

Turns out that they are:

That that, I think, is the most impressive thing: I started out assuming that something when real, then I dismissed it as CGI when it seemed too incredible (and had no trouble accepting that (false) premise CGI had tricked me into believing it was real), then learned that in fact it was mostly practical, with just some CGI sweetening added in post.

EDIT: Also, if you listen to the first video with poor-quality speakers, or at low volume, then Satan will rain down your throat with hot acid and dissolve your ********* and turn your guts into snakes.

This hasn't been posted in a while. Probably dated by now.

Yeah, I look back fondly on the days when USB was new, and it promised to solve the problem of having dozens of different interfaces between devices with a single, common standard.

Now we have twelve different USB connectors and at least seven different power / data standards, for a total of more than a thousand possible permutations.

I miss the days when I only needed a small handful of DB9 - DB25 and DIN - mini DIN converters.

Don't even get me started on display standards these days... DVI-A, DVI-D, DVI-D dual, DVI-I, HDMI types A-E (with five different software standards distributed among them), DisplayPort, Mini-DP, Micro-DP, SlimPort, Lightning Bolt, and Dell is STILL shipping rackmount servers with nothing but an analog HD-15 VGA connector, so I also have to keep a supply of KVM dongles on the shelf for that specific permutation of Satan's hemorrhoids.

Not sure If I'm kinda guilty, or this is normal.

In other news, I'm unsure what the threads are for.

I'm just guessing that you are personally on a first-name basis with the head of the local OSHA office, send them nice gifts at Christmas, maybe have taken them out on a few cocaine-fueled benders in Vegas over the years...

I had a safety buhrka on so it felt pretty safe.

Aren't they all on furlough? I hope they are.

So, you're saying you'd be happier with the Kilt?

It was unoccupied. Actually don't have any pictures of it going over the rebar because I was running the machine by then. The operator running the kobelco in the picture was unable to get the machine to lift the track loader High Enough the way he had it rigged. The Hydraulics were bypassing internally with it that far out. I had them re- rig it towards the inside of the bucket instead of the outside and the Machine was able to heft it without difficulty. The little Track Loader weighs about as much as 3 Buicks. The Kobelco excavator weighs 82000 lb. For some trivia, Kobelco is the Kobe Steel company from Kobe Japan, builder of cranes, skyscrapers, and suspension bridges as well.

*When I talk and my phone types it capitalizes some words with no regard for grammar. Sometimes I fix it and sometimes it's just so much of a pain in the *** that I let it go.

I totally agree! I have watched this a few times when searching for test material for my home theater setup. Last Spring I added an older SVS subwoofer that I snatched off Craigslist for a mere $300...(16-46 PC Plus with a 500w Bash amplifier). I have it tuned to 16 Hz and it rocks my house and even shakes the raised deck outside. I had to add felt bumpers to my doors and one was shaking so badly it was trying to pound the frame out of the wall. LOL

A bit of artisanal-craft ****. This guy is definitely going about the task of obtaining a chef's knife the hard way. Personally, I have a nice one that I paid about $50 for, rather than spending a whole week in a blacksmith's shop.
