now a blower is just a positive displacement pump, for a given rpm and flow rate it will produce a given pressure differential ratio. Use a turbo to make more than 14.7 psia on the intake side (like 14.7psig or 1 bar of booooossstttt), and you'll sure as **** get that increase in DP on the output.

So yea, twin charging works.
thats a 2 stroke detroit diesel, there's the problem with your statement already. There is a reason detroit dropped the twin charging and just used a single turbo, and they still are a gas guzzling, obnoxious annoying engine to work with.

Ask me how I know

Oh, I'm not in any way defending the sludgy, dirty, burns/slobbers almost as much oil as fuel Detroit 2 stroke diesel. They had good power density for their weight but at anything other than full tilt were a mess. Modern tech applied to the 2cycle diesel would be intriguing though...

And I apprenticed in a Detroit shop one summer, the way those guys explained it ALL 2 stroke Detroit have a blower somewhere. The later stuff was 4 stoke and ditched the blowers for turbos.

I see EMD's had this thinggy....

ROUGH NUMBERS: The SuperHornet carries 14k internal fuel, and using 4 droptanks on the wings plus a buddy-store under the fuselage can carry another 16k... for 30k lbs of fuel. NOW... it's going to burn about 5k of that on the afterburner launch/climb, and since it's so heavy, gonna need to stay way up on the throttles. In the end, the max "give" will be far less than 30k lbs would lead you to believe... perhaps more like 12k-15k assuming it never has to leave the vicinity of the carrier.

(edit: wait, that's not an 18, is it?)

Cruise speed on the Hawkeye is 256 kts, which I'm guessing is at the lower end of the Hornet's maneuverability envelope.
That is a FA-18E Superhornet and E-2D Advanced Hawkeye from the test squadrons at Pax River.

You'll note in the pic that the E-2's flaps are at 0* (up) and the Hornet has them in an intermediate position. I can't recall what speeds worked out the best, but it was enough nose-up on the Hornet that there was exhaust interference with the E-2's dome.

It's an issue. We've tried it off a C-130 with no problems.

If you've never seen this, it's pretty unique... Jaguar top-mounted heaters.
