rattle can to spray gun

Hey, i like to use my compressed air powered spray gun for painting (just my preference, i know about the attachments for rattle cans and i dont want it) and i was curious, if i turned a rattle can upside down and removed all the compressed air would it be safe to drill a hole in the bottle and pour it into my spray gun....

FLAME ON :firedevil

well here's the epic thread requested in that other thread about brining traffic in...
In for big bag of failure.

I don't see why not, but then I don't know much about paint.

make sure to use a really old sparky drill to make the hole.

Also, it helps to have the whole event videotaped.

Ironic that this question should be asked just now...

When I came home this evening, my next door neighbor had one of his motorcycles (a Husky TC450) up on the work stand, doing some routine maintenance. Just as I rode in, he was preparing to drain the coolant from it. Recently, we had used up the last of a 5 gallon drum of VP 110 racing fuel, and said empty drum was sitting in his garage.

He decided that the empty drum would make a suitable container for receiving said coolant. To prevent spillage while draining, he decided to cut the top off of the drum, thus providing a nice, large opening. He proceeded to do so with an angle grinder using an abrasive metal cutting disc.

The good news is that there should be no permanent scarring, and his hair will grow back. The bad news is that during the explosion he jumped backwards, knocking the bike off of the work stand.

Damn, did he not have the bungs wide open for days beforehand?
Hindsight is a bitch, poor motorcycle.

In an attached garage? No way- stinks up the place. Besides, you're assuming that forethought entered into this. :D

There is an ironically happy ending however. After I ran over (I was in my garage at the time) and stopped laughing (which took a surprisingly long time) we picked up the bike and set it back on the stand. That's when we noticed that the fall had widened a crack in the frame, which had previously gone un-noticed, enough to be visible. The bike has been dropped many times before, so who knows when this happened.

Would have been a bad thing had that gone unseen for much longer, particularly as he'd been planning to take that bike out on Mt. Palomar this weekend. He'll have to settle for the SV650 instead, as Dan is taking out the DR-Z and the KTM isn't exactly street-legal at the moment.

If you are going to spray, why not just get stuff that is meant for a spray gun? I am lucky enough to have an awesome paint shop just down the street where they have buffers, an assortment of pads and polishes, and most importantly they have paint and they can mix up a batch of matching paint for my car and stuff it into a spray can or just give it to me in an uncompressed container to use in a spray gun. It was $30 for two cans but the shit matched my black perfectly.

ok im done ranting, just had a few shots of tequilla :)

Oh and for the frame, just mig that shit if its steel or take it to a shop that does aluminum if thats what it is. Shouldnt cost more than a hundred bucks to get it stopped.

Tom,
FWIW I got one of those handle things from home depot that turns a rattle can into a 'spray gun' with a handle. It sucks. It was a set back to my project.

Will have pics of what I was doing in the next week or two when I'm done. You guys will love it....

seriously. the local sherwin williams automotive shop is really helpful to me, I tell them what I'm doing and they just give me the right product.

yeah just go to paint supply store and ask for paint and reducer, get some mixing cups and have at it, paint isn't cheap but you'll get much better results
