Rear mount turbo vid.
Dont know if you guys seen this yet. I was strolling threw youtube and came across this one.
|
Heres a vid of it running.
|
Interesting. Would be nice to see it run. The install was a sad thing though. Why not invest $50 in some aluminium and mount the stuff properly?
Edit: So. Now I saw it running... |
Gheto!!
|
i am astounded by how little people understand acoustics. what a complete piece of shit.
|
lol
|
haha, he could barely catch back up to that truck.
|
what the fuck is with the speakers, wing and trunk rack.
and if thats at 15 psi somethings way wrong |
I think a stocker is faster
|
that is one of the shittiest turbo miata's i have ever seen
|
Ok a couple of things.
The car sounds like ass, a duck being tortured under the hood? His video editing skills suck nearly as bad as his engineering. Interesting that he'd go with a stealth turbo setup, considering the park bench mounted on the trunk. +1 on the speaker mounts, niiiiiiice Didn't this yahoo blow up his engine? Auto-tuning spark table? Naw ... |
Someone brought up his setup a couple weeks ago. I watched the video and was like wow....this guy is fucking 100% retarded. Then I realized he's about 30mins away from me! When my cars back together I want to find him and do doughnuts around him while he's driving.
Everything about that miata is horrid. I wouldn't want to even stand near that thing I would be so embarrassed. Vash- |
my comment wins.
|
Kurt's own comment at 3:00 of the second video pwns.
|
Holy shit. I know I want to repeat everything that's been said in this thread but that's already been done.
You know what would be cool? Do a remote mount and put your muffler before the turbine, that way you can get that oh so cool turbine sound without sounding like unmuffled ass. |
What a retard.. "heheheh.. Nitrous express..."
That dude seriously has the mentality of a 9 year old.. All his stupid little side notes and dumb comments about shit, like someone equally retarded is sitting next to him in agreement. "oh, Yeah, Totally." Oh, and On a side note.. I dont think that thing is very much quicker, if any at all than my N/A. :jerkit: |

I don't know where to start...
- that wouldn't pass an emissions test anywhere in America, much less Cali - remote mounts are done in cars with no room underhood as a LAST RESORT because, well, they kinda suck - you get no good airflow to that tiny intercooler - widebands and bigger injectors do not make very interesting sidenotes - God wants to end that plexiglass panel - at 15 psi you ought to have a fast car, all you seem to have there is proof of concept |
Just a question... can you take screenshots or frameshots of youtube videos? I have an idea for my new avatar.

its not off topic. it's kurt setup, so any criticium of both kurt and his remote mount goes hand and hand.

celibacy and rear-mount are (ironically) synonymous. This motherfucker sounds like a god damn child I went to school with at like 8-years old. There is no way in hell he's ever crawled on top of any woman and rubbed his sweaty belly on her. Its never happened, and never will.

i just moved the fun to his postings at CR.net
|
|
oh, and what's up with all the fagtronic handball pigs thinking you can autotune spark?
|
Kurt "it's a Garrett 2256 turbo, about the largest turbo you want to use with a rear mount set up"
So what's the turbo Corky used for the rear mount test mule MX-5? The one thing that pisses me off is his using plexi in the roll bar as a wind screen. I do that in the summer too. Actually works very well. Now if I could just install an STI wing on the back I could be just like Kurt! |
running rich and just starting to mess with autotune features (both fuel and spark tables) i can get it to 1.1 bar (15psi) but it stumbles bad! (around 5,800 rpm). i got the popping coupler sorted out (silicone and TWO o-rings- no leaks no popoffs, nothing! now i have to figure out logging and what it all means, so i can tune out that stumble. i have spiked it to 21 psi (1.5 bar) a few times and i would love to be able to take advantage of that boost (usually spikes coming up to redline). you can see on this video that i hit 1.1 bar, so now it's just a matter of tuning it in. |
here's a good quote from that club roadster thread regarding his setup:
Mine was just a bit of fun, not as professionally executed as this, I wish you the best of luck with your conversion. |

so i'm just assuming he had his dragging behind his car throwing sparks everywhere. maybe a little duct tape just to keep things legal. |
yeah i saw that....don't stifle my imagination damnit. =)
|
I dont get this at all... from what I see the cons outweigh the pros by alot. The only pro I can see is that it may be cooler at the back of the car then under the hood, but how are you going to run all that piping and not heatsoak from the exhaust? Plus you have to buy all that extra tubing, and your turbo is much more exposed to the elements then it would be if it was under the hood.
So lets see Pro: Possibility of cooler air at the rear of the car Cons: Extra cost of tubing heatsoaked tubing IMO unsafe location for the turbo to be LAG Anything else? |
won't really hurt the turbo being back there. if you're thinking in terms of water/snow etc. i like the idea of a clean engine bay, but i'm with ya on pretty much everything else.
|
just seems that if something breaks, it'll drop pretty easy, if he would make some real brackets to hold it up it wouldnt be so bad.
|
only cost him 1 grand for that set-up. what a tool.
|

OMG!17PSIZ! Sadly, my shit probably looks more ghetto, but is faster at 5psi. |
you guys are so out of the loop, this is so two weeks ago.
