redline tv on speed

:greddy2:
It was mediocre at best until I watched this last episode. Two beginner drift teams, get this- each team has a front wheel drive car. So they show ten minutes of these guys driving around the track at parking lot speed. Granted a couple of the beginners could hang it out, but most of it was just sad. To top it off, one of the pros (bondurant) rode shotgun in the cars w/o a seatbelt. Am I supposed to be convinced this is an exciting sport? :inout: If I rode shotgun in student's car w/o a belt, I'd wind up in their lap on the first right turn. Why is it so hard to produce an import performance show?

Braineack 09-13-2006 01:53 PM

That's why Nopi tunervision has to make a whole segment about the girls, nothing else exciting to watch. The same teams draggin every episode.

I've started watching tuner challenge, but I think it's stupid the three cars competing right now are the v6 mustang, VW 1.8t, and Honda Fit. They wanted cars representing USA, Japan, and Europe, but don't you think they coulde have maybe tried cars in the same classes?

Agree. Stupid mass market desk jockeys. But, after being criticized, look at how popular pimp my ride is. However, a real import performance show, marketed for "us" not "them" would do well. Build it and they will come.

IMO- spike has got the only real thing going. The three shows - horsepower, musclecar and xtreme 4x4 are worthy of viewing. Only problem is there's about 10 minutes of good content in the half hour. There's 10 minutes of ads, and then 10 minutes of people driving cars... which I suppose is ok. But the problem with all of those shows is there's rarely anything on there with a 4 banger. If it is, then it's on Xtreme and it's a crazy rock crawling thing. And I'm talking about the new horsepowerTV not the old one when the put nitrous on a civic. Way back, they had another show on that was hosted by two drag racers (can't remember the name) but they did an awesome job of explaining all things cars. It was v8/musclecar oriented - but most of it still applied to everything.

Funny, I was thinking about the success of the OCC chopper show, which I watch not because I like bikes, but because of the good fab action. I recently completed a welding class, and love it when they fab a solution to their problem. It just appeals to me.

It is duly noted however that the producers throw in the "drama" of the shop. That sure as hell aint for the tech guys watching. So, like you said, about 10 minutes of good stuff per show. Guess it's good enough for me.

how about on pinks...they keep getting this shitty civics w/ drivers who can't drive or build a car...and they want to race freaking blown v8s (the red trans-am, he's from NC :D)

the only cool one was the full race civic and the RX-7 showdown. that was sweet.

the show you where talking about was popular hotrodding tv it hasnt been on for a while, it had some good tech with it though. horsepower is doing abit more realworld stuff with the fox body mustang in the more recent episodes and i like it better than extreme 4*4 in wich you take a 2-300K $ shop and a 500-1200$ chassis or frame and throw 50k+$ at it to go play in the mud or climd a hill trucks was already filling this void before the current season wich for sopme reason doesnt have stacy. i loved project copperhead every time thta show airs i can feel the value of my 67 go up.:)

m2cupcar 09-14-2006 08:43 AM

yep, that's it. I thought that ranked up there as one of the best car shows on tv since I've been watching. And then they nixed it. Those guys were funny too. Musclecar has some good technical info on tools and the vehicle- though it's mostly drag racing oriented.

i have a very good friend who is into drifting. he has worked pretty hard at it, using a dedicated RWD car. last year, he was clearly outdriving the competition, but because his car is hugely underpowered and not producing as much tire smoke, he wasn't getting the "style" points. he also attributes that to his car only being primer-black.

for this season he added a body kit he found for cheap and had a quick, cheap paint job done. the car looks better and he picked up another sponsor. he caught the eye(s) of some of the pro drivers and has been doing demos in highly prepared cars on top of driving his own car in competitions.

i can appreciate the skill it takes to this sort of driving, but as long as there are "style and form" points, i don't take it seriously.

i don't watch american choppers, it's staged and always shows in a particular formula. i DO watch overhaulin. as a former automotive stylist, i have a HUGE respect for chip foose. i have told my wife i would sacrifice a lot of pay and hours if i had the opportunity to work under or with him.
