I'll be finished with my BSME at the end of December and I'm looking for an engineering position in the San Antonio, TX area (where my wife would like to finish her degree, and it's close to home). If anyone has contacts which may need an engineer please let me know and a resume will be sent. It's getting down to the wire here and I'm still unemployed. I'm looking for something in automotive/motorsports, but will also consider manufacturing and design work.

I'd appreciate that. I have submitted my info to Toyota, BEGi, Cartech Racing, and the CB1 Team. I havn't heard from any of them yet. I should probably call BEGi and find out if I should send my resume to someone else besides Bell. He may not be in charge of hiring.

I'm also a big fan of hydraulics, so if you know any hydraulics manufacturers in the region I'd like to hear about them also.

yeah... I spend 8 (3 month) co-op sessions with Robert Bosch at various locations. Did a lot of development work and some manufacturing work. I'm hoping this will help cause I have $90K in student loans to pay off and still have several grad degrees to get.

Thanks for those web addies, monster.com doesn't appear to be of much help. I'm finding more adds for maintenance men than engineers.

You should definitely speak with Corky...he is very approachable and may know of some good opportunities in SA. You should also check out Southwest Research Institute (www.swri.org). They have a large automotive group and work on some very cool projects (contract work for Ford, GM, US Govt, NASA, etc).

get in contact with the area headhunters/recruiters. a lot of them are bullshit, but there are good ones out there. it's also worth it to get some resume help.

if you use monster or whoever, reload your resume EVERY week or sooner. it keeps your info at the top. start connecting to your network and contacts to see if they can link you to the area you want to move to.

most importantly: keep positive and practice your phone interview by trying to anticipate the questions. you're marketing yourself.

I think it has to do with "which" industry you are looking at. For biotech and other catagories it is helpful...teaching probably not so much. I've mainly used it in the past to search for jobs, but have always gone to the hiring company's website to apply.

monster is OK. that and careerbuilder. Except they seem to hold onto your stuff forever even after you "take it down". I submitted my resume a year ago and took it down 8 months ago and still get calls out of the blue.

Another idea is to find the companies that are local to you that may be interesting to work for and call up their office line and get ahold of someone in the engineering department. you can make some big points by having a casual conversation about what you are all about and what options are in the area by talking to someone who's in the biz. A good place to start is with product development firms. They will know What Is Up. just throw "engineering product development san antonio" into google and see what pops up. but dont sell yourself right away. get the information and then use that to do some legwork.

thanks for the help everybody. my resume is just about spotless after some help from friend. the school "proffessional development" office did a horrible job.

at this point I suspect I should just call Corky and see what he says. in the very least he could probably connect me with some other companies I might be interested in.

Really? ...To be perfectly honest I don't know a whole lot about Cartech. I just know Corky is affiliated with them, I've never seen anything negative about them, and I want to work in motorsports. Cars are my passion, if I can work with/on them for a career nothing would make me happier. That's why I went to and automotive specialty school for my degree.

Corky was affiliated with them (long story and I don't know the half). Actually it was a DBA for Corky until some guy (I believe his name was Preston Marshall) purchased the name (and a few of Corky's kit designs). I've been to their website a few times and several of the parts look very similar to Bell's. If I'm not mistaken, I think even Tony use to work for Corky.

Ahh... that probably didn't sit well with Corky either since my cover letter implied that he owned them or was highly affiliated. My infomation on them was totally pooched. Oh well, between the craptastic resume which has now been re-worked, the typos in the cover letter, and the false info I was going on when writing it the chances of working there are probably shot. I still need to call him and just talk with him, I do much better speaking with people than writing.

I've seen Corky interview people on the spot who walk in the door... Don't be afraid to "make the move" with Corky. He appreciates motivated goal oriented people who are straight forward and direct.
