That's a chunk of my life going off to be dismantled.


Anybody else here do time on "Super Sara"?

My Dad did time on Forrestal also sold for scrap.

They must have really been ready to get rid of the ship because it sold to the scrapyard for $0.01! I can't really imagine tearing one of these down.

Sara was full of asbestos and other nasty stuff. Floating superfund site.

That old girl sure could move though. You should have seen how fast we chugged across the Atlantic after Saddam went into Kuwait.

The rumor was that Sara had a cracked hull from launch. So if the Navy was going to lose a carrier, they wanted to lose Sara. All I know is that Sara always seemed to be in the thick of it. Being an aviator assigned to her made for interesting duty.

Sigh.
