RIP Scott Kalitta

WOW!
I'm sure that after viewing the video - He never felt a thing. I've seen lots of 1/4 mile crashes - But never seen one like that one. Ususally they at least have a sand trap at the end of them so the car can slow down or stop. It looked like he was still traveling at 250 mph when he hit the sand trap, and then it just exploded...... Always sad to see it happen..... |
i just got a phone call telling me about this a few minutes ago, i didnt want to believe it but damn, guess there's no denying it now, this sucks big time...
anyword on what exactly went wrong yet? |

I grew up watching drag racing, and that's the most brutal crash I've ever seen.
 |
why is there a wall at the end of the track?
|
i just talked to a buddy who wrenches for another team. He was pretty upset about it because those guys are like family. He said his arms and head were not attached in the aftermath. This is really sad. My mother actually sold Connie Kalitta a Vette back in the 70's, and they've always had my father and I join them for a coctail on saturday nights, before race day, when in town.
|
Oh my, thats terribly sad, not as if its relevant but my next door neighbor actually died today too.
Its sad too see anyone go, especially before their time, May they Rest Peacefully. |
Wow thats a short track.. Very sad to see this
|
ive never even heard of this guy but it is sad :/

In any case, it's horrible that such a good driver, or any driver for that matter, would have to go out in such a way. |
What track was that? Englishtown?
I've seen film of those kinds of engine blows/chute-and-brake failures before, but there always seemed to be catch netting and fences to slow them before the cars could get to anything solid. That's just fucking horrible. |
RIP.
Someone wanna tell me why that track was so damn short? |

Don't want to call bs on something sensitive, but every news report I've read on this has said that he was "taken to the Old Bridge division of Raritan Bay Medical Center, where he died a short time later." Kinda hard to do with no head.
