RMcElwee's funny M.Net threads
Everyone else posts threads off m.net so I figured that I would too. I was looking for the Optima Red Top part # that fits in a '99 and came across these jewels.
Battery voltage? http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=262152 Bad battery causing me to get 8MPG? http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread...hlight=battery (post #7 - funny because he races and has the word BOOST in his name) BTW, shouldn't we make a forum rule that states you have to put at least some description with a link? I think a lifetime ban or castration would be a good penalty... |
Yes, I am sure that it isn't my charging system that's at fault as the previous battery did not give me trouble. I replaced it simply because it was a 36 month battery and 36 months was coming up rather soon. |
People do the same thing with a timing belt. I replaced mine at 105K miles just because I was taking the car down for a lot of other work and I had a squeaky tensioner pulley.
|
A timing belt I can see. But a new battery every 3 years "just because"? Just seems funny to me :)
|
speaking about batteries, i need to replace mine which is a good replacement with good power, Because my system drains mine and its the stock one, and when I'm playing it my interior and headlights dim, every time it pounds. Or would it be my alternator?
|
I paid $169 for a Red Top Optima 34-78 for my mother in law (autozone). I have a yellow top and can let my car sit for 6 months and it cranks up strong.

the last 3 optimas I've owned didn't make it past 18 months. I buy duralast now because its not worth the extra money since interstate bought optima.

I could understand that guy swapping his battery every 36 months if they were doing it for free on warranty. Considering some of those batteries have unconditional 5 year warranties and things of that nature. I've had the original battery in my '99 ranger since they day it was purchased. It's been cycled plenty, leaving lights on or w/e might drain it completely. Glad it's still going strong.

No, this guy is just ----. I've seen him post about the "pedal travel spec of 0.20 to 0.51 inches" for a clutch. I didn't even know they had specs for that stuff... |

Sounds like operator error to me <G>. I'm not sure I've ever heard of a car battery not lasting 18 months. Throw 2 of them in the mix and I would say something is going on. Three and I would say that you are doing something to kill them (but I am not sure what that would be).
