Roger makes custom ink pens
 

Roger (rleete) makes custom ink pens, but you can't buy them. And you can't ask for them and get them. You must be selected. Several members of this form has been selected. I don't know what I have done to be graced with this honor, but I am the most recent recipient.

I would like to post a few pictures of his latest handmade creation as it travels with me. Maybe some of the other recipients will post pictures of theirs as well.

Mine is a Trimline hand finished in Black Walnut in a process called blackening and finished with beeswax, boiled linseed oil, and shellac. He's selected metal hardware and a color called gunmetal in recognition of my forum handle. These pictures don't really portray just how deep and rich looking the wood is.

I took it to a little beach at the edge of Tampa Bay for a photoshoot. Unfortunately my only camera was a potato.

Total pen geek here! Love it, that is awesome!!! What refills does it use?

My favorite piece is a Ti2 Titanium TechLiner that uses the Signo 207 as a refill.

Roger tells me it uses Cross style refills in the orientation letter he included.

I gave a pen to Six, because he is one of those actual nice guys you meet once in a while. He and I have interacted only through this forum, and never in real life, but sometimes you can just tell.

Anyway, he said he wanted a slim pen, but I had already started this trimline, which has a slightly larger profile, mainly due to the centerband. So, I tried to keep this one as thin as possible. I thought it made for an odd profile, but it was picked out of a lineup of pens by several co-workers, so I guess it's not that bad.

Incidentally, I made a dozen pens before my operation. Several were for co-workers, and of course this one, but the rest were given to the doctors and nurses who worked on me. They were all very appreciative. The doctor, a world class vascular surgeon, geeked out and asked me to describe the entire process, and even asked some surprisingly insightful questions about how I make them. Gotta love it when you're doc is a bigger nerd than you.

Ermagerd. I was not a pen person. But now I am. That looks awesome.

It's actually the perfect diameter for my liking. The thick ones feel awkward to me and I can't imagine a thinner one being more comfortable. The contours of this one and the diameter are just right.

I'm talking about pens. Get your mind out of the gutter.

Medium-slender, actually. But I have it on good authority that Joe P. enjoys a healthier diameter in his hand. What about you, Vlad?

I took the pen fishing today but chickened out at the last minute and left it in the truck so it wouldn't get damaged. It was a nice day and there was ample opportunity to have posed with a pen.
