Default How many lanes does your highway have?

I'm watching Modern Marvels and they're talking about some pretty huge highways. I'm from Maine, where the highways are mostly 2-lanes in each direction, but toward the southern part of the state we get as many as 4 lanes in each direction. I always thought 4 lanes was pretty standard for the rest of the world, but it looks like maybe not.

How many lanes does the highway you travel most frequently have going in each direction? I would make a poll, but I have no idea what the upper end of the spectrum looks like.

Being from Johnson city TN i have family in Atlanta (marrieta and kennesaw mt.), and my dad grew up there and in Millen Ga. Driving in ATL is somewhat daunting. That left lane goes about 90-100 sometimes, bumper to damn bumper too.

yep, driving through Atlanta is some scary **** on days like that. especially with all the stupid ****** drivers here in Atlanta. seriously who gives these people licensees.

side note: not to blurt a locals bizz. but one of the guys on the MX5Atlanta forum was on the 75 85 area in Atlanta in that fast bumper to bumper traffic. he then noticed somthing huge in the middle of the road. he didnt see it in time to move around it cause there was a big truck in front of him. long story short, the truck drove over it with no probs. he then noticed it, but it was to late. lets just say every thing from his K member back to the diff is fucked including the diff arm (snapped like a twig) ripped his oil pan open like a sardine can too.

US1 was a fine road. I was stationed at Homestead in the eighties before the hurricane blew the base away. Fine damn drive down to Key West on a sport bike. Back then there wasn't much traffic and you could cruise at a 110 most of the way down. Good times.

The section of I75 that goes through my town is 3 lanes each way. I always take the back roads with 1 lane each way.

the road I take to work has 4 each way. unless you count the center "express lanes" which is two more each way, but you can't get on and off wherever you want. surprisingly few for DC Metro area.

the beltway has, I think, 4 or 5 each way.

Except for where it goes down to TWO!!! Inner loop, west side, after MD boarder, after 270, before 95 there's this totally fucked up section that goes to three lanes and one of them is exit only. Worst part of the drive home every week.
