Default Router question.

I just recently got my Time Warner cable set up. I have been seeing download speeds of around 2.1MB/s and upload speeds around 120KB/s.

Yesterday I bought a D-Link DIR-615 Wireless N Router. Since installing it I noticed my download speeds around 1.7MB/s and upload around 80KB/s.

I am not using the wireless.

The computers are wired to the router. I have 2 computers on the network.

Anyone have any idea why I'm loosing so much bandwidth? I knew I would be loosing some, but 400KB/s seems too much.

I would do some A,B,B,A testing. I think that you will find that there is no difference in speed but I am just guessing. Do the tests and if there is still a difference then I would replace the router. No reason for it to limit your speed.

You could also do a speed test one each computer with them hooked up one at a time. There may be some heavy traffic from one that is eating up your bandwidth. I can't think of any other logical reasons.

Well for some insane reason 'Traffic Shaping' was enable from the factory. It apparently tests your internet connection and sets it to the usable bandwidth. Which in my case it decided 768kbs. Apparently the test sucks.

I turned that off and the speeds are now back up to 120/130KB/s upload.
