badass air compressor i'm liking(ingersoll rand SS5L5). found it here for $659 and 11.50 shipping:nuts: |
Hell of a great deal if it is legit. 18 CFM @ 90 is pretty baller. That kind of capacity costs you $924 (shipped) from Grizzly or $850 (not shipped) from HF.
Curiously, they list their address as 350 62nd St, New York, NY 10021, which to the best of my knowledge of NYC geography is not a valid address. 62'nd street is divided in half by Central Park, and they don't specify E or W in their address. While 10021 is a valid zip for the west side, I don't think that there is a 350 W 62nd street. A large part of W 62 simply doesn't exist because the YMCA occupies the area where it would be. It ends around 190 at Amsterdam, and then there's a tiny little stub of it on the other side past West End Ave, on which I can't locate a 350. USPS also does not recognize 350 W 62 as a valid address. There is a 350 E 62nd, however it's in the 10065 zip code, and specifically, it's a residential apartment building with just a few little retail shops at street level. Not finding any reviews (good or bad) on Google... |
your geographical info is curious indeed, and i couldn't find any reviews on them either.

I'd say that price is pretty suspect. Range is probably in around 1000-1200, not including shipping. I can't believe you'd get that compressor for that price, unless it fell off a truck.
|
Ask them if you can pick up and inspect it before payment. That's a simple way to weed out potential scammers.
|
Also of some note:
Whois.net - Domain Names Domain registered by a secured 3rd party. Doesn't make it not legit, but can sometimes raise suspicion. A physical address is required for domain registration, so if you want to hide that then people use secure registration. Also, the site loads slow as balls, making me think its being hosted on someones crappy DSL connection; potentially not legit. Also, site looks like balls I think. |
Yeah, I'd say skip it and deal with a legit vendor.
CraigsList is often a good (if time consuming) place to find adequate deals on used commercial compressors. Not as good as it used to be, but adequate. Failing that, I'd say you should check out something like this or even this. The SCFM rating isn't as high, but with a 60 gal tank that number starts becoming irrelevant for anything less than an actual jackhammer. |
I paid 500 and something plus tax for my 30 gallon air compressor. I was going to get the 60 gallon but you had to make your own hardline tubing to the compressor and it had to be directly wired to the fuse box 220 plug. And ingersoll rand is a very good tool company for air tools, there are defenitly not cheap at all. I paid 450 for my impact gun alone. So that price for an air compressor is kind of fishy :S

That price scares me. Similar or same model at Tractor Supply was over $1000 if I recall correctly.
|
HF has a similarly powered unit (3hp rather than 5) for about 400$ The CFMs of the HF unit is essentially the same as well. Let me know if you want more details.

thanks guys, i kinda figured it was too good to be true. still i think i want this particular compressor but it will have to wait till i can drop the dough it really costs.
lol at the jackhammer comment, i realize it's probably overkill but even at the $900 i could probably snag one for i know i'm buying something quality and likely won't ever outgrow it even with the biggest sprayers, sanders, or sandblasters it'd ever use. |
We bought one of these a few years ago from Home Depot;
http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/pro...8ebe4a_400.jpg 3.2 Running HP 60 Gallon Compressor - VT6314HDRB at The Home Depot 11.5/10.2 SCFM @ 40/90 PSI So its not the 18cfm @ 90psi of the IR but it more than keeps up with every air tool I've used on it. Not bad @ $375 I think. |

Same husky one I have for my home garage. The Husky/Kobalt (lowes) versions are the same cambell hausfeld air compressors but with different colors. So just go look and get whichever is cheaper.
