See y'all later.

I'll be leaving for Afghanistan shortly. Like always there will be good and bad to this, but I'm trying to see the positive (experience) vs. the negative (leaving a new baby again).

Like last time, when I come back there will be things to improve about the car. Might even replace it.

I'm anticipating not having very good internet connectivity even when I'm not out on mission, living out of my rucksack. So I'll look forward to talking to y'all when I get back, or when I seize an opportunity to use a connected computer somewhere.

As a thanks for stopping by my thread, here's a pic of my freshly painted M4.

TonyV 07-17-2010 03:03 PM

GL homie....get home safe!

FRT_Fun 07-17-2010 04:11 PM

If you have any questions shoot me an email (or call). It's all fairly fresh in my head. Keep your head down, do what it takes to get home, and never get complacent!!!

hustler 07-17-2010 04:13 PM

ttyl, xoxo.

Speaking of which, have you finished that writeup?

b0ne 07-17-2010 05:13 PM

Good job with painting that M4. Most people try to put too much detail into it and it blends together.

I got two brothers rotating through, and two other brothers who were already there (since as far back as "Desert Shield"). Stay safe.

Ben 07-17-2010 05:24 PM

Be safe my friend.

lordrigamus 07-17-2010 05:46 PM

Sorry to hear it, gonna miss ya bro. Hopefully the days fly by and you get home soon. We'll hold down the fort while your gone, you just stay focused on the task at hand and keep your eyes on the prize! Be safe man.

Oh and nice job on the paint. If it shoots as good as it looks you'll have no problem!:giggle: See ya soon.

sixshooter 07-17-2010 05:53 PM

Take care of yourself.

How do they say that in Arabic?

We'll see you when you get back. Good luck and Godspeed.

jbrown7815 07-17-2010 06:24 PM

Take care bro.

chicksdigmiatas 07-17-2010 06:34 PM

Take care man, if you need anything, let us know. It sucks being deployed, but the tax free income and bonus money you get paid isn't bad. Also, the AF has it to where when your deployed you can put money into an account that draws 10% interest, up to 10000 dollars. Do you have that?

Nagase 07-17-2010 06:42 PM

Good luck, try not to find out how an IED works.

miata2fast 07-17-2010 06:57 PM

Enjoy the adventure, and be safe.

shuiend 07-17-2010 06:58 PM

Once you get there post up an address where we can send shit to and let us know if you need anything. I am sure we would all pitch in to get you some luxuries.

xturner 07-17-2010 07:00 PM

Be careful and make sure you get home OK.

Thanks for serving. Lets hope experience ≠ getting shot at.

NA6C-Guy 07-17-2010 07:18 PM

Good luck over there. Be safe and come back in one piece.

Rafa 07-17-2010 07:36 PM

Stay safe.

We'll miss you.

+1 Hell yeah!

Joe Perez 07-17-2010 07:59 PM

Good hunting.

ScottFW 07-17-2010 10:34 PM

Stay safe and thanks for serving.

kotomile 07-17-2010 10:48 PM

Thanks for the well wishes, dudes. I hope it flies by too, being away from my daughters will be the toughest part. Elise was only 3 weeks old when I left her the first time, and Juliette is just shy of 3 months now. It tears me apart thinking that Elise is old enough now (3) to understand that I'm leaving for a good while. But I digress..

Thanks, the others on my team were giving me some flak about it (too much brown, too much effort, all the 11Bs are going to laugh at you, etc.) I don't care, of course. It's meant to blend well with Multicam, which is what I'll be wearing the majority of the time there anyway. Be sure to thank your brothers for their service!

Ma salama would be the closest. Means "(go) with safety" literally. That reminds me, I owe you a translation, don't I? I listened to that song briefly, wasn't getting much though. Egyptian dialect is haaarrrdddd.

That's called the Savings Deposit Program, and I think it's standard across all of the services. I did that last time and made a good chunk of change. I just basically took all the money I didn't immediately need and funneled it in there. 10% adds up!

Haha, thanks I'll try.

Y'all are absolutely welcome to, I'll post up an address in this thread once I get one, could be a month or so. Snacks and hand warmers will be the hot items, methinks.

Well, we'll see. If we do get in a fight, my team has a lot of noob tubes :)

jtothawhat 07-17-2010 10:59 PM

I might see you there man, I will be there in October. But...as a private contractor running PSD runs.

m2cupcar 07-17-2010 11:31 PM

Good luck Koto. Can't imagine leaving my girls, but that's what will get you through and back in no time.

9671111 07-18-2010 01:42 AM

Maluk 07-18-2010 12:56 PM

I am with you Brother. I know what is like to leave family behind...I got 3 deployments so far. Just stay in contact and will fly by. You been there before I am sure you already know that.

APO to APO is free, so drop an address for free goodies.

Take care.

Stay safe man. Thanks for your service.

I couldn't imagine leaving my daughter that long either. They grow up too fast.

Down for care package help, or monetary assistance for getting pics/videos of family out to you.

Take care.

l_bader 07-19-2010 08:00 AM

Matt -

Having already been deployed before, you know the routine. Find the old hands that can give you the straight poop on the do's, don'ts and gotcha's; ID the shitbirds in your unit and attempt to pair them w/ someone to mentor them before they get themselves or someone else injured or worse; stay tactical but don't fall into a rut; and most importantly, keep your eyes and ears open so you can come back to friends and family as intact as possible.

I wish you the best and look forward to hearing good news from you.

RotorNutFD3S 07-19-2010 09:00 AM

Stay safe and good luck dude!

sixshooter 07-19-2010 09:03 AM

Shukran. Ma salama.

My little brother is deploying from Ft. Bragg to Iraq in January. His wife is already in Crapstanastan. I hear it is beautiful if you like dust and rocks.

redfred18t 07-19-2010 09:51 AM

good luck out there dude and stay safe

kotomile 08-01-2010 02:01 AM

Sixshooter, redfred - your avatars are not helping, lol. I miss the states already...

If you stop by any of the tiny COPs.. you still probably won't see me since I'll likely be out on mission ;)

Will do. We're actually getting some high-speed stuff here as time draws near to leave BAF.

Kandahar? Be safe man. I don't envy you.

We came to BAF from Kyrgyzstan on a C17. I made sure to grab a seat against the wall.

Oh yeah, I'm asking lots of questions. First combat deployment. Thanks, I hope to bring back some good news.

All others - thanks for the well wishes, see y'all soon.

Good luck Koto, be safe, I'll be joining you out there in a few short months unless they change things up on me.

EDIT: Just saw the "APO to APO is free" post...that true? If so send me an address and a shopping list anytime you want, hell send them either way.

budget racer 08-17-2010 03:35 PM

Is there an address to send you stuff yet? I've got a little box put together and it needs a destination!

Best of luck! Stay safe and thanks for serving.

jtothawhat 08-17-2010 04:05 PM

UrbanSoot 08-17-2010 04:35 PM

kotomile 08-18-2010 03:29 AM

Address PM'd to those who asked, it's also posted in the subscribers' section.

FRT - Yup, getting used to similar scenery.

J - Nope, I'm 35 series, 35P. Why?

Urban - better late than never, eh? They'll be waiting for me when I get back probably.
