she runs!

started it up today and she runs great! megasquirt is all sorted out. time to get my ass to a dyno and get tuned. should be next weekend! cant boost on it alot yet but i will say the bosch bov sounds awsome and my exhaust is muuch quieter now. even with the cutout open its not bad at all. more updates next weekend. maybe some numbers. got a few things to do like make some headlights and fix my brake lights and break the clutch in. after 5 months in the making and its finally working :):bigtu:

Atlanta93LE 02-18-2007 07:10 PM

Congrats! Keep us updated

MS is sounding better and better as more and more people figure it out.

adbradley 02-18-2007 07:25 PM

atlanta, i think MS is for you buddy... i can see it in your future

adbradley 02-18-2007 07:27 PM

mxv congrats.. BTW i love the heat sink on your o2, where did u get that idea??

and this http://s96.photobucket.com/albums/l1...t=DSCF0468.jpg looks like some fun

mxv 02-18-2007 07:37 PM

yea, ill note that is NOT me, i would be staring at it drooling with my thumb in my ass  about the heatsink haha yea it was my installers idea. he thought itd be a good idea and be kinda fun to make. he has some simple idea made about just breaking up a single sheet... i took it to another level... to the jetson's level hahahaha.

thanks guys and yes ms is for you!!!

LOLA - 92 02-18-2007 07:43 PM

Moved over to Megasquirt. (MS section)

EDIT: And moved back over to the B.S. Section because I'm a sympathetic person.
LOLA 2/19/7

Atlanta93LE 02-18-2007 07:43 PM

Alright alright, I'll think about MS once I get it all together and running!

Yours takes 5 months and is an almost complete restoration/turbo project. I am just throwing on a turbo for low boost, and I'm not even close to done at 5 months!

mxv 02-18-2007 08:16 PM

well alot of it is idle time. waiting for parts and waiting for funding to buy the parts. id say about 20 hours went into the ms system. accually painting it and prepping it seemed to take the longest for me. i haaate doing it!

megasquirt section, this isnt about my megasquirt, this is about my project finally being complete. my victory thread.... got moved :squint:

miatamania 02-18-2007 08:19 PM

lol, pm someone to have it moved back ;) congrats.

adbradley 02-18-2007 08:29 PM

mxv is that one pic next to the MS pic a megaview??

mxv 02-18-2007 08:31 PM

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l1...o/DSCF0467.jpg

that?

if so thats the new chip that comes with the board. i am having to use the older style anyways currently. if that is the picture your talking about.

mschlang 02-18-2007 08:38 PM

That's the MS2 daughterboard. As far as I know (which isn't very far), it hasn't been used w/ spark and fuel on a miata with the OE ignition system. Hopefully that comes in the near future.

edit: Looks like a lot of hard work went into the car. Looks good!

adbradley 02-18-2007 08:58 PM

yeah that was it

ecugrad 02-18-2007 08:58 PM

Welcome to the club!!! Its starting to get crowded in here

mxv 02-18-2007 09:01 PM

greenville nc... i live in greenville sc haha turbomiata meet?

magnamx-5 02-19-2007 05:36 AM

Damn when you go at something you go all out that is frigin nice work dude. I am impressed. :bigtu:

hustler 02-19-2007 08:32 AM

wow, thats such a bad ass progression. I'd love to do something that complete to my car.

turbopezz 02-19-2007 06:01 PM

MXV,what suspension are you using.

mxv 02-19-2007 07:00 PM

thx guys, its some gc knock offs from a friend i got for free :) 450's f and 350's rear with stock shocks haha :( agx's on the way soon. drive ok now though but give that a few days, its already getting bouncier and i have only put about 15 miles on it. those 15 miles i drove are with no doors or fenders or hood or front bumper. haha. talk about paranoid of cops, i feel like i am driving around a pound a weed trying to avoid the fuzz. ill get some vids up sometime. getting tuned next weekend so ill be laying my rubber down next week.

UofACATS 02-19-2007 08:07 PM

No doors, fenders, hood, or bumper? Dayum.

Thats some nice work though. Good job, it's coming together nicely.

Al Hounos 02-19-2007 08:22 PM

love that intake manifold.

neogenesis2004 02-19-2007 08:46 PM

Haha, I say the same thing everytime I see his avatar :) I can't wait to get my welder so I can learn to make some sweet shit.

Philip 02-19-2007 08:48 PM

I wonder if I could MS the GTO...

mxv 02-19-2007 08:54 PM

i painted the chassis back in october when the temps were still ok in the garage. now its a little to cold so i cant paint the body parts till more like 65+ degree weather. but i am working on preping and primering the parts.

thx again guys :bigtu:

btw... those frame rail reinforments on my page i made... loooving them. i hiiighly suggest getting/making some. this car feels juust like my civic over potholes and bumps now. even with the springs and poly bushings. if anyone is interested in getting a set i could pump some out for you guys if your interested.

neogenesis2004 02-19-2007 09:01 PM

what gauge sheet metal did you use? Do you have a brake in your garage?

mxv 02-19-2007 09:02 PM

14 gauge galvanized. i was thinking of even going past that for some 1/8th inch but this is deffinetly sufficent. weighs probly about 6 pounds or so.

mxv 03-12-2007 07:52 PM

its tuned for 6 now :). so now i can finally give some reviews on the 300zx turbo. once again i am not tuned for any high boost yet but for what i can see now this is what i have to say... spool up in vertually instant the second you get on the gas in any gear at any speed you got about 3 psi on hand. it climbs to 6 7ish is a fraction of a second. the power (though i have been power starved for a few months so my readings could be scewed) felt suprising for such a small turbo and low ass boost. pulled like my t25 .48/.49 sunbird turbo did on my civic 1.6 non vtec at 10 pounds and with waaaaay better spool. i will get to know next sunday how it does with 15 psi or so and i can tell you where it starts to level out and not feel like i am getting back what i put into it. and a dyno the weekend after maybe.

miata on boost thoughts.... wow this is just what the car needed. this thing is a blast, f ing blast! i dont think you will see me in anyother car for a looong time.

for those of your boosting your car.... DO IT NOW! haha this car is awsome on boost, so much more fun than any other boosted car i have been in and hell i am not even making near the power i want yet. traction is shit in first and in a corner, ahhh thats another story... still getting used to that :gay:

akaryrye 03-12-2007 08:51 PM

nice man .. i cant wait until i get my megasquirt sorted out. I tried installing one a few months back and couldnt get it running right, messed with the board for a while and just couldnt get it to work right, so I ordered a new kit and hopefully can get it working soon. Drivability sucks with the stock ecu.

hustler 03-12-2007 08:51 PM

I can't wait to get my shit done up...if I ever get a week at home again.

SloS13 03-12-2007 10:59 PM

Congrats dude. That's quite an accomplishment!

Now make me a Plug-n-play harness for MS&S for an ODB2 Miata ;)

mxv 03-12-2007 11:35 PM

^ now that would be an accomplishment :) sadly every car is different.

Well, that's not entirely true.

That manifold is sweet. I've heard just welding aluminum is difficult plus that looks like a cast manifold and the tubing is a lot thinner. More than I'm capable of. I was thinking about doing a manifold in steal just to avoid all that. It would be ugly and heavy but it would be within my abilities.

mxv 03-13-2007 09:53 AM

for aluminum just make sure its super clean. other than that make sure all your joints are perfect fits. a nice joint with aluminum is the only way to make a nice consistant weld.

clean clean clean. thx man. i need to brace it this week. so for you intake manifold diy guys they do need bracing. i was hoping to at least get it tuned but the vibration that it sees is insane on this motor. now i know why the stock im brace is the size it is :gay:

few of the most recent shots. looking to get the whole body on in a few weeks primered and then when it warms up enough ill finish painting it.

cjernigan 03-14-2007 09:19 PM

Oooooo pretty engine bay man, i'm loving the lack of crap surrounding the motor.

adbradley 03-14-2007 11:48 PM

holy shit, where is everything!

akaryrye 03-15-2007 02:32 AM

My god, that is the engine bay I aspire to have one of these days. Im getting closer, but still need to rearrange a few things. What did you use to strap down the fuse box, thats my next thing to do to clean up my engine bay. Then when I get megasquirt working right I can finally get that damn AFM out of there. I dont know why, but there is something beautiful about simplicity, especially in these days when everyone seems to want everything so gaudy and cluttered with bling. When you put your Headlights back on, your engine bay wont look too different from mine.

mxv 03-15-2007 09:45 AM

you do notice that my headlights are already on right? thx man. i had to make a bracket for the fuse box. put my turn signals in my running lights. cant you guys see that pic? time to get this thing looking like an accul car haha.

tuning for 15 psi this sunday :) well see how long the vicous lasts :gay:

if you like simplicty look under my dash. you wont beleive how much crap is under there. you can look thru my windshield vents to my floor and my dash board vents you can see behind the dash.

Braineack 03-15-2007 10:09 AM

wow, you can easily smuggle mexicans across the border in that engine bay!

magnamx-5 03-15-2007 10:23 AM

nice how did you integrate the headlights into the turn signals i love it. :bigtu: also where did the wires go did you do a complete rewire and strip out the nonessential or what if so you have alot of time on your hands man, and a good deal more patience than me. wow

VRTSid 03-15-2007 10:44 AM

jeebus chist!
thats sexxy

I had a hard time trying to find a place to mount my MS under dash. It's, what, 4"x6"x2"? Mazda fit an awful lot of crap into that tiny space.

Are you going to reinstall the heater/defrost or is this a track only car?

mxv 03-15-2007 05:58 PM

its my weekend play thing, auto x, drift days and track days. and an occational nice day speeding ticket snagger. yea all the essentials are out of the wiring harness. i have a 1 x 1ft bag of wiring i had taken out. not including the numerous controls/sensors and other things that go with them. id really like to move my boost controler over so you dont see those hoses and maybe tuck the wires on the driver side into the fender but they will all need lengthening so ill do that on a rainy day i guess. cant wait to get some paint on her, looks like dog shit with bondo doors and no fenders or hood. noticed a place that sells a fiberglass hood that has some integrated headlight covers built in to it. thatd be perfect for me but its like 350$ i will need to make a decsion before i go painting the stock hood.

i am going to do the same stripe pattern as my old miata... the grey and the black like my front bumper but i am donig a white car and black stripe. you guys think i should continue the stripe on the rear spoiler or just paint it black? i am having mixed thoughts.

turbored 03-15-2007 08:59 PM

THAT car is Hot! Wire tuck FTW!

rotaryjunky 03-15-2007 09:08 PM

That is one hell of a car already! Personally, I like the stripe on the spoiler because it looks more integrated. But its all good either way.

cjernigan 03-15-2007 09:21 PM

I drilled and tapped my compressor housing to keep my boost solenoid lines short and sweet. Makes it easy to keep the vac lines down to less than 2.5' total maybe less.

mxv 03-18-2007 08:57 PM

homemade door panels :) doors weigh about 20 pounds now :)

http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l1...o/DSCF0523.jpg

made the door panels and arm rest for under $18 total :gay:
