It is a very nice pen. But more importantly, I have one and you don't.

You shipped a thing to another member of gayturbo.net, and didn't expect it to wind up here?

Joe just so you don't feel to bad, I did pay for a ***** and glitter dicks to be shipped to you and explode out on opening, unfortunately the company sort of vanished. I should have just sent you the $10 I spent with a giant ***** drawn on it.

Little Jelly.

I hear the uni ball jetstream 0.7 is a fantastic pen btw.

rleete, can you use just about any wood? I assume density is key and soft or spongey woods will just break.

Yes, just about any wood, and even materials that are not woods, like plastics. If I can cut it, I can use it. I have used acrylic, solid surface material (like Corian), corncob and even antler (which stinks terribly) to make pens.

As to soft/punky wood, I have a new (to me) solution for that problem. It involves a vacuum chamber and a resin known as cactus juice. You submerge the piece in the solution, and put it under vacuum. This removes all the air, and when you release the vacuum, it pulls the juice into the wood. You then bake it in a toaster oven, and it hardens very nicely, similar to acrylic. This is called stabilization. You can add dyes to color the wood at this time as well. I plan on making more corncob blanks, which has a really unusual pattern to it.

@rleete, I have signed my first official document with the pen that you have given me. It was the acceptance of a job offer, which was printed on really nice, heavy textured paper:

A year from now, I shall either look back on this fondly, or rue this day. Only time will tell. At any rate, I shall once again have a garage in the 'burbs, after four years of the high-rise / city-slicker lifestyle.

Joe, so that is why you aren't worried about your address being broadcast to the world?

Well, Mr. Emm, Mr. Perez isn't exactly concerned with using his real name on the interwebz don't ya think? He's far braver than I. Perhaps he knows that Internet anonymity isn't actually a thing.

I use my real name on every forum I'm on, with the exception of CR.net, where to date, no one has yet successfully guessed my identity.

I post my address on web forums.

I post photos of my signature, and the identity of my employer, on web forums.

I fear neither man nor neckbeard.

I am invincible.

First week of June, or thereabouts.

I decided to really splurge this time, and have purchased -=> ALL NEW BOXES <=-.

I've been lugging around the same boxes that I had in college in the late 90s, through a total of fourteen moves (I only now just actually counted. I feel like a ******* gypsy) and I'm tired of patching them up.

Seriously. There are a couple of specific old boxes which I'm keeping, but the rest of them can all burn in hell.

Bought a new tape-dispensing gun as well, like a boss.

Pro-tip: Boxes purchased from Home Depot, Lowes, CVS, WalMart, Target, etc, all suck. They have a waxy finish which hampers tape adhesion. Same goes for the tape itself. Scotch / 3M brand might be all thick & pretty, but the adhesive is weaker than Hustler's moves on prom night.

Buy your boxes and tape from your local U-Haul store. Not only are they cheaper than the competition, but they ******* rock. Solid, durable, and the tape sticks to the boxes. It is not incidental that a company which specializes in moving knows a thing or two about boxes and tape. U-Haul is a very weak second to Penske in terms of the quality and upkeep of their truck fleet, but they are easily #1 when it comes to packing materials.

It was during the BBS / Usenet era. Then cookies happened.

Congrats on the new gig, I was waiting to see if you were going to accept it.

And I was actually scanning it to see about the drug test. I now work for Oracle-NetSuite, it's far and away the best job I've ever had as far as pay/benefits/flexibility/etc, and I did NOT have to take a drug test.

I was shocked since I have for every other job I've had.

As I've noted previously, this is my official contract-signing pen. I've spent several million dollars of other people's money with it to date.

Last week, we took delivery of some new furniture for the rebuild of Control 1. The company we use, Forecast Consoles, always ships Igor the Angry Russian Carpenter along with their gear to make sure that it's installed properly. (I am not embellishing here. His name is Igor, he is very Russian, and seems to be perpetually angry. He does good work.)

Anyway, Igor calls me up to say that the job is done, and I need to come down and inspect / sign off on the installation. So I bring my Contract Signing Pen with me.

When I arrive in the control room, Igor hands me the documents, along with a pen.

The one on the left:

I used my pen, of course, but remarked that the family resemblance is extraordinary. We spoke for a while (in very broken English) about pen-making, and I told him the story as to how I came to be in possession of mine.

I find it mildly amusing that this thread had no evidence of Joe actually leaving Illinois.
