right, but taking a trans on and off under a car is a much different process. Its not an inane question if I'm stuck working on a car alone and need help because its a question I should have asked before I started.

It is inane because you SHOULD already know the answer. You know it'll be easier and faster with help. When I get home I'm going to ask my kid what he thinks, be he comes up with the right answer :)
when I dropped the motor in the corrado, it was a fucking cake walk, and I didn't need any help, but it mounts up much differently. Its better to ask a simple fucking question than hire a fucking tow truck to pull the shit somewhere to get an extra set of hands. |

It looks like I'm going to live alone again, which is good, but means I won't have any help for the engine swap, rear end swap, or turbo install. Do I want to do this at my parent's house where my step-father will help me, or go solo in my apartment garage?

Engine, tranny, diff, supercharger, suspension, brakes....all done alone at home.
I think I'll have the chicken tonight for dinner, or maybe just a few Bud Lights. |
It's not that hard to do alone... I've pulled and installed my engine twice now solo. I haven't done a diff swap yet, but I can't imagine it being too hard solo as well.
|
It's only hard if you're a weak-ass bitch.
|
I very much would have not enjoyed changing diff bushings alone. Also busting the axle nuts loose alone may not have been possible. But a motor swap alone is possible if you have a balance bar on the hoist.
|
I wouldn't swap an engine by myself. I would install a turbo kit by myself.
It's always easier with two people. Don't you have friends? ;) |
I used an adjustment bar with the hoist when I installed the engine/tranny combo myself. Would have been a huge pita without it.
The diff bushings were not too difficult for me, but I was never able to pop loose the rear axle nuts. I wanted to change the rear bearings once, couldn't get them to budge, so scrapped the idea. |
