Should I pull the trigger? (Sell the Miata and buy something else?)

What do you all think, do I sell the Miata and buy myself a Ferrari 308 GTB/S or a Jaguar XK?

Prices are looking attractive lately, hard not to pull the trigger!

Depends. Do you want a car to drive or a car to fix?

From what it sounds like with Markp is all fix.

hustler 11-08-2007 09:10 PM

the miata is faster and probably significantly faster on a road track. Maybe you need a membership at a track instead of a flashy car.

Yes, but there is something to be said for the aesthetics of the 308. As one person alluded too, my miata spends plenty of time in hibernation for one reason or another. It's not like the 308 is an inherently unreliable Ferrari.

Yes, I could spend all day dusting Ferrari's and Porsche's but at the end of the day it still looks like something the hair dresser drove to work. ;) There is no substitute for the body work on the 308 in my mind, which is why I would want one over a 348, 512, or even a 355.

mazda/nissan 11-08-2007 09:35 PM

i still have wet dreams of porsche 944's :cjerk:

does that ferrari have a horizontally opposed or flat V engine?

Philip 11-08-2007 09:53 PM

a flat V?

mazda/nissan 11-08-2007 09:56 PM

i saw that it said v12 and then flat in the specs, so i wiki'd it

:dunno:

Hah, so oxymoronic.

Go with the Ferrari!

cjernigan 11-08-2007 10:00 PM

Ferrari!

Mark, in 1984 I almost bought one brand new; decided to go with the 928S instead, big mistake BTW, because I already had 2 young sons at that time. There are 2 locally and if I'm not mistaken I think Ben unknowingly is going to turn out to suggest the correct thing: you're going to end up fixing it all the time. I agree with you that not many cars ever made are as sexy as the 308 but take into account that Ferrari at that time had pretty shady work (Enzo was in his last years and the company had to be rescued by Fiat). I drove one many years later and I can state that I was underwhelmed. Have you already tried it? If not, test it and then decide.

Now if you instead mentioned a Dino I could agree with you. With that 6 cylinder engine you had many more cheap paths to get more HP.

:dunno:

It is an 8 cylinder engine car. The Dino was the only 6 cylinder road car ever made by Ferrari (Fiat engine).

The Testarrosa 512 (of TV's Miami Vice fame back in the day) was a 12 cylinder engine.

whoops, maybe i wiki'd the wrong thing :bigtu:

Savington 11-08-2007 10:12 PM

308 is the poor man's ferrari and everyone knows it. your miata is better in every way.

Jefe 11-08-2007 10:34 PM

Keep the Miata, Buy the Ferrari, and after a year sell what you don't drive... Or just put your Miata motor in the Ferrari, at least it would be reliable. Theres a 914 running around up here with a Subby motor (ok not the same league)

I still can't get buying a Lotus out of my head, but my garage only holds four...

cjernigan 11-08-2007 10:54 PM

I jumped conclusions. Didn't even look to see the 308. I get along with DIY miata guys, they're more my mindset. People that spend money to just buy a car, that comes with status i don't seem to always fit in with. I like modifying the miata. The ferrari is not only out of my budget but also out of my life style. I'd rather have the miata than a 308. The 430 is a different story.
