There's a good chance I'll be getting an internship offer with USAA in San Antonio. Here's the kicker, I've never been to Texas, and know nothing about it. Anybody here know much/anything about San Antonio?

I'm originally from Northern California, I like cars, fly fishing, bmx and mountain biking so that's the kind of stuff I'm used to--does San Antonio offer any of that stuff?

NO SMOG CHECK for San Antonio, cheaper car registration.

Fly fishing, good luck with that.

Mt bike trails, there's a few but you'll have to research.

Do it! I don't know a think about Texas, but there is a simple principle:
If you go and hate it, you can always go back. If you never went, you will never know.

I've lived and worked in Italy, German and NC, a few years in each place before I moved back home to Sweden and settled down a bit. I am so glad I did the first move to Italy, which lead to the next chance and the next... and the next.

Lots of mountain biking in Austin. Be prepared for it to be hot as ***** though. If you haven't experienced a Texas summer, then you are in for a treat. Last year I wanted to murder someone.

moving from N. California to San Antonio is going to be a bit of a culture shock if you've never been.

Imagine all those priuses become full size pickups and you're getting to the right path.

San Antonio is at least a decent sized city with some culture so it wont be too redneck in comparison. If you had said you were moving to Waco, then I'd just say "no".

Yea I'm moving back down to Sa this summer as well. Worst thing is heat. 100+ days. But as long as you got ac you'll be set. Plus there is tons of things to do there including car meets, autocross, and everything in between.

Indeed.

San Antonio isn't nearly as bad as Houston, but it's still Texas. Plenty of Wal-Marts, no In-n-Outs, and Law Enforcement Officers who believe that Smokey & The Bandit was a documentary.

I say go for it. If you like it, then it's awesome. If you hate it, then you will appreciate the PRC all that much more.

Nope. I've spent plenty of time in Houston, plenty of time in DFW, and slightly less than plenty of time in Austin and San Antonio.

Houston is a feculent hole. Building a shopping mall the size of Rhode Island does not entitle you do have such amazingly bad roads, corrupt government, and weaksauce tacos. Both of your major airports are run-down and decrepit, your highway system seems to have been designed simply by paving over old cattle trails, and is it really necessary to have three Cadillac dealers, four McDonalds, and five Wal-Marts for every one natural-born citizen or legal immigrant?


There, I have officially messed with Texas.


East Texas is anything but dry, and Kentucky is close enough to Memphis that you can at least get decent BBQ.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll probably get to check it out on a fly out first anyways, just wanted to see what the input was. I've been pretty much everywhere on both coasts and the Rocky Mountain area, never the Midwest though so it should be a good time.

Kentucky is far and away a better state then Tennessee, I should know, I've had to drive through there several times.
