In honor of the cycling thread, I though I'd bring the love of winter sports to our kind forum. Now, I'm not sure how many people are into this, so it probably won't take off like the cycling thread or anything, but share your pictures/thoughts/videos/ideas/stories/stoke here.

I'll start, just bought my season pass (7th year in a row!), and I'm starting to feel the cold winter air roll in. So naturally I bought a new snowboard(again).

I decided to give Never Summer a try this year. Handmade in the USA, 3 year warranty, beastly edge hold while still staying playful and fun.

I used to live in Hawaii X_x no snow there.

Now I live in LA. shitty snowboarding near by but I'll take it. My season pass at a local place last year was a waste due to the drought in California. Only one week had fresh snow all year and the rest was man made.

I hope this year is better.

Shitty snowboarding is better than no snowboarding. I know mammoth got absolutely obliterated 2 seasons ago or so, so there is hope!

I'm a skier, usually get about 20 days in per season at our local area called Seven Springs.

Dude, it's 90 degrees outside...

Here in ohio we have a few hills to board on, most runs are embarrassing at about 2 minutes long lol. I ride a Rome artifact, and I love it even though on riding hills it's a little shaky.

Sidebar to the OP, how did you like that Rome board in your last picture? Muy curious.

Nice to see some others chiming in! I usually get about 3 days a week, or around ~50 days a season myself.

That was a RIDE board, I liked it.. It was a 'RIDE" yukon though, long.. stiff.. cambered.. Not something I'd ride again.

My current ride for the last 2 seasons was a K2 turbo dream. I've had two of them, i love that board.

Ms Mobius and I board. Started doing tabletop jumps and ... then we had kids. Been hard to get consistent time each winter since.

Get my left knee scoped on 9/2. I'll have a matched set at that point and we hope to get back to it this year.

Current board is an Atomic. I have to have wide boards due to my size 12's. I had a Burton Canyon before that, which I really liked, but it was in the rafters of the garage and a 107F day caused it to bubble up and delam on top.

Anyway - hope Mt Hood gets better snow this year!

After two dry winters in Oregon I'm back in my New Mexico homeland; hopefully this el nino thing pans out.
What days do you normally go out Fireindc? I'll be up your way every other Friday or so. Might buy some land on the mesa or out by Penasco if I can afford it...

Man, people complaining about shitty snow. I don't even have hills, much less mountains out here in Indiana.

My brother designed the topsheet and put my name on it in fancy text so it would look like I'm a pro or something lol. It goes fast as fuck, nobody beats me down the hill in a straight line, and while doing shallow carves I'm still faster than most skiers bombing. However it was probably a bit too big for me when I bought it, and since I've lost >50lbs so it's WAAAAY too big. Hard to control but still fun as hell on groomed runs.

Because it's way too hard to control on black runs, I bought a ~4 year old Custom X that is ~160 or so I think. It's much more forgiving than my carving board but not as much fun on the groomers.


I was able to get out west the last couple of years (Telluride in spring 2013 and Copper Mountain in Feb 2014), but I'm not sure if I'll be able to again this year. Places in the midwest don't have much appeal after being out west a couple years in a row.

Steve has the same problem i do... Skiing in Indiana sucks dick.

My old stomping grounds were out East. Whiteface, Titus, Big Tupper before it closed, Gore, used to go out to Killington and Mt. Snow from time to time.

Wow, the fact that you were ripping like that on skis you made yourself is impressive. Cool man. Also.. be careful chasing the snow like that.. it will probably end up dumping in Oregon :rofl: Although I must say that I have a great feeling about this year.. Taos has had SO much rain the last 2 months and it has been great up here.

I'll be riding wed/fri/sat every week, we will definitely have to meet up and shred the gnar.

I dream of conditions fire posted in the OP. I have a "resort" about 10 minutes from my house but never go. It is almost always groomed, packed, fake snow. Last year we got dumped on with many storms in the 1-2ft range. I'm not sure why I never skipped work and went. Besides the fact that its $50 a day and it is always disappointing.

I am also about 2hrs or so from Snowshoe Mtn., WV. It is a nice resort and you really can't ask for better conditions in the SE.

I really need some new equipment, but skis are very low on my spending list. One day 2 years ago when I skipped out on work to go skiing. This was in the spring and we had about 8" of fresh snow fall.

I'm glad I'm not the only one already looking forward to this winter. summer is nice and all, but I want to get back on my board.

I got a GNU Park Pickle two years ago, and its been awesome for the shitty east coast ice/granular since it has a "serrated" edge, so its got pressure points on the edges to help dig in. I rarely fell in places my friends kept consistently falling on, so i am pretty happy with it. Reverse camber is way more fun to ride too, coming from a traditional camber board it feels a lot more floaty and smooth to transition around. between the more forgiving feel, and a bit of liquid courage, I managed to attempt and land my first gap jump at one of the parks in Snowshoe last season, so I am pretty excited to get back out there and push myself this season. Being in the air has always/still does freak me out, and with the packed ice at most of the NC slopes, it doesn't exactly provide a very comforting environment to try new things...

That pic of Snowshoe is beautiful. I went for the first time last season and will definitely be back. my visit was a little more overcast, but it was nice to get fresh powder. It's infinitely better than Beech, App, and Sugar. Only downside is having to pay for a place to stay when I go there, I usually go stay with my sister in Boone when I go because it is $free.99

Burton Cartels. Have not tried burton bindings, EVER. I'm usually not impressed with their stuff, but there were just too many reviews and recommendations for these bindings, and i found them for a killer deal. I'll see soon enough!

If you want damn good bindings try Union or flux!

Agreed, but they have their limitations as well. The union atlas that I was looking at in my price range do NOT have canted footbeds, which at this point I have discovered is a must for my bindings. The flux are the same way, only canted footbeds on the higher end models.

These burtons retail for $230, i got em for $100 shipped brand new. Super stoked on em, going to give them a shot.

I have had ride, k2, and rossignal bindings the last 5 years or so, in that order. I loved the ride, they are still around and kicking. The k2 were a bit soft, but still nice. Put them on my park board. The rossignal were amazing, I had the "cobras", and would defo recommend. Great binder for the price I paid.

I'm just giving some new stuff a try. Never had a NS board, never had burton bindings. neat.
