Default Small Lexus/Infinity SUV's?

I'm talking about the Inifinity FX and Lexus RX.

Sister in law is looking at a few at Carmax. They're looking at 2008/2009/2010 models. Anybody own one and have an opinion? She wants a "luxury" SUV or I'd probably steer her towards a CX7. I've always been 50/50 on the looks of the FX but never have been impressed with the Infinity.

Anybody want to chime in?

I don't know a whole lot about the SUVs, but I would be very cautious when buying anything from Carmax.

I think the Lexus GX470 would be a better choice.

She bought a fully loaded '09 Infinity FX... $32k. I thought she was freaking crazy. You can buy a fully loaded '09 4Runner for that.

RX is full of win, parents have had one for 4 years, put 142k on it in that time and nothing beyond dealer scheduled maintenance. It is still as quiet and smooth as the day they bought it. I'll probably be getting one for the wife soon.

Sounds like she already made her choice but here is my take.

FX is the better looking, driving car.

RX is the softer, quiter, plush car and will get better mpgs and be more reliable.

And ditto on not ever buying a car from Carmax. Unless you want to over pay.
