small,mid size trucks???

i have around 7gs to spend on a pickup.

i have been looking at ford rangers, nissan frontiers, toyota tacomas.

the tacomas are a lilttle pricey and have high mileage plus i hate the interior.

frontiers are hard to find with a 4wd setup, also parts will be hard to come by.

the rangers are pretty nice when you get the flareside setup.but i hate on ford.

anyone have any experience,i want/need the 4wd,but should i go 4 or 6 cyl.
5speed or auto?

right now i want a 6cyl with a auto.:ugh2:

I have a 95 Nissan 2WD 5-sp 4-cyl. I've had it for 10 years, and except for going thru front shocks every 20,000 or so, it has been trouble-free. However, it is absolutely an old-fashioned TRUCK - crappy ride, so-so handling, noisy all the time, but there's no substitute for it when it's time to haul a bunch of big or nasty stuff. Just don't use it as a DD.

No matter what you get, get the extended cab - the ability to store a little inside and adjust the seats more is worth every penny.

Cant go wrong with a hardbody nissan pickup. But if you want somehting newer go with toyota build quality is better and just alltogether better truck than the ranger. MY 1994 handels and runs very well but i fitted wider tires etc they do go through shocks pretty quickly and i love my KA24E 190K miles and going strong the extended cab is worth its weight in gold it makes a wonderfull DD for me when the miata is down or it is snowing.

Here is my advice. Don't piss around with the play trucks. Get an F150. My F150 has been awesome. I don't have 4wd but I do have the towing package and limited slip. Get the V8, Towing package, and LSD. I got my '04 brand new out the door under 17k.

You should also look at the Nissan Titan if you are considering only 4WD.

I had a 2000 Ranger XLT, X-cab 4dr, 3.0ltr 5-spd, 92k miles.
The best vehicle I ever owned until some bitch ran a stopsign.
I had a Gibson catback, K&N Typhoon, crank pulley. Pulled like the 4.0ltr.

I replaced tires (Wrangler's) at 40k and 80k.
Clutch and slave at 90k.
Front brakes at 55k.
Some small electrical smog thing at about 60k ($10).

Fram filters and Mobil1 synth.
Midgrade Gas, 89octane.
20mpg normal, 23mpg all freeway.

I went x-country on a Navy move. 500lbs in the bed, 3500lb trailer... NO PROBLEM!

I have a '99 Ranger XLT EX-Cab 2 dr 4wd 5spd 3.0L with cat back exhaust and crank pulley. I got a deal, bout it for $1500 with 10k miles on it, sunk another $2500 in fixing it up with a few new body panels. It's near perfect and still has less than 60k miles on it. I've had zero problems with and and it towed my boat just fine. Mine is the stepside like the one shown in that picture, I like it better than fleet side. I get around 20-21 mpg on 87 oct freeway.

TOYOTA TACOMA FTW!
Have had my 99' 5spd, 4cyl, for 3 years and 50k miles.
NO ISSUES AT ALL!!!

Many small off road adventures! :bigtu:

GREAT gas mileage and the 4 banger is "snappier" than the 6 imo.

Whats so bad about the interior, imo i like it a lot, but to be fair i must admit i didnt at first.

Oh yeah, do i need to even say anything about Toyota reliability?

Goodluck!

turbopezz 06-12-2007 12:55 AM

the 2nd listing i posted the guy sold it on saturday..darn...i really wanted to pick her up..

toyotas do last forever.when i was growing up my parents had a 84 camry beater that wouldnt die for shit.ran to 200k but the tacomas interior reminds me of it and that shit was ugly inside..but the tacoma interior is starting to grow on me...also i can never find a decent price on one ...there asking 10k for 96/97 with 100,000 miles.and that aint going to happen..

step side is what makes these style trucks cool.
