Snow

OK...so today it's snowing again in Maryland...last time was about a week ago. Not a big deal...but people in MD are stupid. Either way...onto my question...

A week ago, it snowed...i drive a turbo miata everyday...and didnt have my truck ready...so I brought my car...ice and snow on the road...made it to work with no issue...got to work - NO ONE ELSE IS HERE!!

You're probably wondering why that is so suprising to me...well...because everyone else I work with drives an SUV/4x4...and I'm the only one who made it to work...

So it's snowing again today....and another lonely day at the office...

Anyone else have the same issues?? OR have ANY reason why a lightweight sportscar is better in the snow than an SUV (other than driving abilities)??

im just a little north of you in trenton, nj. we havent had that much snow yet. but i did put on my x-ice snow tires on tuesday. im waiting to see how these actually handle in the snow/ice. i already had the hardtop on for a while now.

Miatas are excellent cars to drive in the snow. Their weight balance and neutral handling tendencies make them extremely easy to control.

With good snow tires the only problem you'll ever run into is ground clearance.

ummmm then how come last time it snowed substantially I was cruising past everything on the road with my 20 dollar winter tires--including a miata that couldn't get up a gentle slope because his ass end kept going sideways?

I'm actually very impressed with the Discount Tire cheap ass Hankook Winter I*pikes I got $100 off. They'll be getting a hell of a workout tonight. So far we've got about 4-5" out in Reston. There's already traffic on the road out in front of my office. It was closed briefly while the fire dept pushed losers back onto the road surface.

I've got Pirelli Winter Carving tires on for the winter and they work great. Like someone said earlier, ground clearance is the only issue, but I've never gotten stuck.
