well... unix was 64 bit for a while but there was a very few cpus that had 64 bit support until few years ago.

Linux isn't UNIX. It's UNIX-like.

To be UNIX, the source has to be a branch starting from either AT&T SysV or Berkely BSD.

UNIX was 64 bit on mainstream (DEC Alpha) hardware in the 90's.
