so I'm going to the DENTIST

As the title states I am going to the dentist. It has been about 5 years and everything has been good, no pain or anything, but the other day part of one of my fillings fell out and I keep getting food stuck in there. I called into their office this morning and they said they could get me in at 2:00. I knew I didn't want to go today so I made an appointment for Friday at 8:30am. I know I have cavities and just am hoping I don't need a root canal or a crown or something. I haven't ever needed anything that major before and have heard the root canal can be especially painful. I don't know about you guys, but to me there is nothing worse than going to the Dentist. I am like 5 year old kid again only now my parents won't be there to keep me from running out the door when my name is called. I am dreading this. What do you guys think about the dentist?

Root canal isn't painful, annoying and time consuming yes. Endodontic therapy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. You'll need a crown after having it done, most dentists now can build your porcelain crown while you wait. Although it may still require 2 appointmets.

Other than the needle a good dentist shouldn't cause you any pain during the procedure. Try to force yourself to relax and go to a happy place in you head. Only pussies are afraid of the dentist. Get all your shit fixed, then go once a year. Since having a few issues fixed from a neglected youth I've not had so much as a cavity in over 10 years. Preventative maintenance FTW!

I'm 47 and never had a cavity. I like going to the dentist, because it means the busty redhead girl presses her boobs against me while she cleans my teeth. And, insurance pays for it.

Werd! I'm 33 and no cavities for me either and hygenists are almost always hot!

This is why I like getting my hair cut at SportsClips. Your haircut always makes you look like you're ten, but it's so worth it.

OP: I've been putting off a much needed visit for almost a year. I wish I had just manned up and done it a long time ago.

Quoted three times in a row! W00T!

Hmmm.

I'm trying to remember when I was last at a dentist. I remember physically being there, but for the life of me I can't remember when. It's been at least ten years. That much I know simply because it was in Florida, and I left FL in mid '99 when I got the job with Harris.

And I don't recall any busty redheads. Maybe I was going to the wrong dentist...

I do remember that when I was younger (early '80s), the dentist had a Pac-Man machine in the waiting room that was set to free play. Beat the hell out of a fish tank.

Once every 10 years or so for me. Had all four wisdom teeth removed about 8 years ago. Two impacted, so they put me out. I just don't see a reason for it unless there is something wrong.

waiting for JasonC to come in and post about my old dentist...

gospeed81 03-10-2009 01:27 PM

If it hurts, and keeps hurting, I go.

Otherwise I just brush and floss, and chew on rocks and bark from time to time.

My dentist's name is Gay Johnson. And I am not kidding. I get to say my mouth got drilled by one Gay Johnson.

Also one time when I was getting a filling, she messed something up with the novacaine and I lost the ability to move my right eye for a while. That was a fun drive home.

2 of the only things I fear (besides Hustler) is the dentist, and needles. I havent been to the dentist in probably 6-8 years, which was when I got my braces off. Ive had 4 fillings in my life, but in the last 6-8 years, no real problems. Im sure they would probably find something that "needed to be fixed", but I will probably be fine with those "problems" as long as I keep brushings and flossing. I do have one wisdom tooth popping out, the other 3 are lagging, and hopefully arent impacted so they will come on out. If they all come out and dont pose a problem, I will let them stay for as long as I can. People did fine with them their entire lives only 30-40 years ago.

You gotta go to the dentist every 6 months you retards. Your teeth not hurting are not a sign of anything. If you do experience pain its already too late.

If you dont have insurance, 100 bucks is all it costs for a cleaning and an xray. I'm sure 90% of you can sacrifice one weekend of AutoX every 6 months to retain your teeth into your old age.

Orthognathic surgery likely from an underbite (profile looks like a cash register). It'll cause TMJ problems in the future most likely if not corrected.

Wisdom are near impossible to clean well. If you ever get pericoronitis from your 3rd molars, you'll be begging to get an appointment to the dentist.

Dentistry is all about catching things early/preventative maintenance. Most cavities don't hurt, however once it goes into the nerve, you'll know it and will likely need a root canal. I'd prefer a filling rather than a RCT anyday.
