So I'm moving... Anyone in Orlando, FL?

Moving to finish school at UCF, is there anyone from the forum in Orlando? I went up there to check out the housing and I saw a very fresh ricer/fast & furious/fart can scene. I hope that's not all there is. :hustler:

queer

Because UTI is based up there you tend to get alot of that hoopla up there. There is a fair share of legit cars up there as well.

The car scene spans the spectrum. With Titan Motorsports and Real Street Performance based here, you have some serious builds. There are also a lot of smaller shops that put out fast cars. On top of that, you have a number of road course-oriented folk from your typical high end marquees like BMW and Porsche.

Central Florida Race Complex hosts some autocross-style events (no cone fetching from what I hear) as well as drift events. They were running 1/8th mile drags but I think that has been temporarily shut down due to some conflict with local city authorities or home owners.

Orlando Speedworld hosts a number of 1/4 mile drag racing events, including test and tunes every Wednesday and Friday last I checked. You get to see a wide variety of cars: single-digit domestic sleepers, super loud domestics running huge slicks and 14-second times, the obligatory rotary-powered Starlet with no chassis tuning that either crashes or oils down the track, slow N/A 4-cylinder imports, bikes, etc.

Martin Sports Car Club is the place for your local traditional autocross fix.

There is also a local Roadster/Miata club that meets out near UCF once a month or so. I have never been but see them post about it on CR.net ocassionally.

No! Go away!

That's only about 45 min from me depending on traffic/time of day. When are you heading up there?

y8s 07-05-2012 10:34 AM

I have a little experience with orlando due to the I/ITSEC show every thanksgiving.

my advice: save yourself!

I should be settled by mid August and starting class by the end of the month.

UCF has a number of quality colleges and is the 2nd or 3rd largest university in the nation, typically ranking up with Ohio State and Arizona State.

There are poseurs in every city, but not every city has serious hardware. Orlando has serious hardware if you know where to look. There is also a Cars and Cafe event if you want to see more high-end stuff, parked.

Me: "Im sorry"

pusha 07-07-2012 06:56 PM

forreal. in regards to traffic, Orlando usually makes Miami look mild.

want to go across town? be prepared to sit in your car for 20 mins and spend $4 or so in tolls.

You're the second person that tells me UCF is one of the largest schools in the country. I wasn't aware of that, I actually thought the contrary. I read good things about their engineering college and I'm happy with that. It's all I really care at the moment.

^True, there's a toll to drive-by the toll

buffon01 04-13-2013 06:37 PM

Bump, I've seen quite a lot of miatas around. I'm hoping someone else is in this forum not into the JDM Tyte scene :)

sixshooter 04-13-2013 07:03 PM

BTW, UCF is not an hour and a half to Lakeland. You are much closer than you think. There were 300 Miatas at that meet.

Consider going to Sebring next time I head down there. Sebring is an hour and a half, but worth it.
