So my cat. converter got stolen again...

And this time the guy didn't get caught. 93 Toyota T100.

Anyway, do 49-state legal cats function the same as California cats? 49-state cats are usually way cheaper than CA cats.

I just want it to pass emissions.

cardriverx 09-12-2008 12:33 AM

WOW lol

Sleeper_MX5 09-12-2008 12:35 AM

that sucks. I don't think i have a friend who hasn't got their cat stolen off their trucks.

paul 09-12-2008 12:38 AM

how much money are they worth scrapped?

Gee you came up with that pretty damn fast.

kenzo42 09-12-2008 01:13 AM

Yah, I got subpoenaed for court for the first attempted stealing (guy got caught). Guy didn't show. Warrant for his arrest is out. Thought he went back to Mexico. Now this shit happens again. Probably same asshole.

Back to the question, CA and 49-state cats...do they all function the same and pass the sniffer?

I don't know where you live but it was all over the news here. people were even stealing metal from graves for money.

Braineack 09-12-2008 09:23 AM

that's not why I dig up graves :naughty:

Since california is the missing state out of the 50, I would assume it would not meet EPA standards. If it's that much cheaper, you could always just try it out, no?

pdexta 09-12-2008 09:40 AM

Seems like there would be some much easier and more valuable you could steal in than a cat.

honda/acura cats are worth WAY more than $25. there is a guy that comes by my work and pays $90 each for our acura cats.

patsmx5 09-12-2008 10:45 AM

If I caught the guy steeling it, I'd hang em' high in a tree for everybody to see.

I dunno about the different cats though. Could you put a CA cat from another car from a junk yard on it?

Using used cats is highly illegal...but I assume you could.

Blaize 09-14-2008 03:33 PM

As to using a 49 state cat, would that be the same thing as moving to Ca from nevada? (as an example) that is to say while they may have to fit a Ca cat when new, that cannot mean that only cars sold in Ca can pass Ca emmisions can it? I bet they stipulate a stricter number for new cars but actuall test for another figure.

Or I could be wrong, just an idea

Fireindc 09-14-2008 03:54 PM

Wow that sucks.

At least your oil didnt get stolen.. :giggle:

Toddcod 09-14-2008 04:04 PM

I thought you could buy new ones for 150. 2 yrs ago I got a cat for 60 bucks at autozone.

I'm glad my car is 2in off the ground. LOL

locomonkeyboricua 09-14-2008 04:08 PM

can you buy a used cat on ebay or craigs list?? well i think if your car is tuned well it dont matter what type of cat you have as long as you dont tell them that you have an 49 state cat. i think it would work. my high flo fm cat got real close to passing it was my tune that had me fail. i worked out the tune a bit and i passed with the same cat.

99NBMia 09-23-2008 12:14 PM

It all depends on the OBD of the car IIRC. Honda/Acura cats vary, I have sold my old CRX (OBD 0)one to a Cat buyer for 20 dollars. Then I sold my 99 miata (OBD2) for 80 dollars IIRC. The change in OBD calls for more netting IIRC, and more netting = more platinum...I love having a lowcar where I cannot even touch the cat.
