1990 Dodge Shadow. 2.5 turbo @15psi. It was pretty fast, but I always wished it was the Shelby csx model.

1968 Chevelle. Insanely built 327 with a 4 speed. Could light up the tires at 80mph without much effort. Drove downhill all the time with skinny's in the front and beefy tires in the rear. Would run the 1/4 in low 12's with street tires. Took longer to stop than to accellerate. Who ever thought drum brakes was a good idea was smoking crack. Took me about a week just to learn to shift into 2nd without chirping the tires. Way twitchy throttle and short throw competition clutch.
Paid $850 for it in 1982. When I was at school my Dad would take his buddies out in it and scare the crap out of them. Didn't learn about that till after I sold it. Rafa, Loved the looks of those Fiat's but I can't think of a worse 1st car! How did you keep it running?!? |

I see a lot of VWs as first cars. Mine was a 1988 Jetta, which was sadly one of the cleanest and most reliable cars I've owned. The 1.8L 8v motor was weak, but awesome. Power nothing, even the sunroof had to be cranked open with a handle. I drove it through high school and sold it to my English teacher for what I paid. From there I ventured into the darkside of Nissan Z cars. I wish I still had it, but a manual tranny and RWD seemed more important at the time.

My dad had a 124 Spider when I was a kid and I thought that was cool. This was when we were in Germany. Then he bought a '79 X1/9. We brought it back to the states and that was my first car.

BTW, I'm going to scan a pic of my fourth car tonight and challenge you guys to figure out which car it was. |
'79 Caprice Classic. Two-tone paint scheme -- white and rust, mostly rust though! My aunt and uncle gave me that car for free when I got my learner's permit at 16-1/2, rather than pay the junkyard to haul it away. My friends in high school promptly named it the "S.S. Evan" because, ya know, it needed tugboats to steer ... I wonder how many Miatas would fit in the trunk?

94 Saturn SC1. 84hp auto transmission. Sucked. Almost shit my pants the first time I hit the speed limiter (104mph, iirc).
Sold it after a year and got a '96 SC2. 124hp with a 5 speed manual trans. Loved it. Spent way, way too much modifying it. Pissed off many, many mustang owners. |
