Some SM people are so fucking anal

If the car is high mileage ie more than 130K then I want a clean body. If it’s a low mileage car then I’m ok with some body work. With your car I would have to spend about $1500 on body and paint plus $2200 for a new motor from mazda (plus install), plus new bushings, ball joints, hubs, etc.. and then all the normal race stuff like full cage, suspension, fire system etc.. In a lower mileage car I can just freshen the head and not have to replace bushings, etc..

I’m looking for one that I don’t have to do both the body work and engine/bushings.

If I can’t find one over the next few weeks I’ll just race my current 92 for the season.

$1500 on a couple of fucking scratches? $2200 on a new motor from Mazda? WTF. This dude has too much money on his hands.

Yea those SM guys spend ALOT of money on stock blue printed engines. The wealthy top runners do at least. I forgot the exact prices for sunbelt engines and the other major SM supplier, but its ridiculous.

you might be amazed at what a top-finishing SM car goes for. $2200 is nothing for a SM motor. OTOH, the last SM car I worked on had a guy fixing bodywork with a hammer.

most of the SM folk I know are much more chill than this, but then again, it's a for-profit business to them. they're quick with the cash when they see something they want, and will walk from anything that induces headaches. if one of my SM friends wanted to buy my car, I'd know something was wrong. enthusiast cars are not their usual purchase targets.

sounds like this guy is an amateur who thinks he can build a cheap spec racer and sell the other one for a profit.

Low 5-digits. It's pricey to be in the front, but it costs $$$ to get that extra 1-2 whp you need to go from the middle of the pack to the front.

why repair the body in a wheel to wheel racing series? It's just going to get pooched again anyways.

Stewards arent going to let you race a bashed/wrecked car, with some allowances for minor damage of course. If they did road racing would look like a crash derby, thats a different 'sport'.

6-8k and the like for Sunbelt, Race Engineering etc

There are plenty of guys that run 2k crate motors or self builds...and others that run used wrecking yard units. Just depends on how well you can drive and where you want to be in the grid....and your BUDGET.

miatanutz 01-21-2008 04:41 PM

As for the OP....
Overall I dont find the majority SM folks to be ---- at all...in that respect. Sounds like you might be dealing with just another lowballer type looking for the 'perfect' deal.

Shit, i see whole turn-key cars on eBay every now and then for under $10g...and thats with spares and a trailer! If i had the money.......
