I'm an American who has never been to Africa.

I have a customer that is preparing to build an oil refinery near Lobito, Angola and he sent me pictures of the site. What a barren shithole! There is no rain, the soil is rocky and can't support crops, and there are no natural resources apart from oil. No wonder those people crowded onto every available boat a couple hundred years ago to get here. I'll post some pics.

Seriously, my runnin' buddy when it comes to cars is black (the one with the Skyline GT-R), and I'm glad he's here. The circumstances that put him here are ancient history AND are not my fault.

Angola is a shithole but take a step into west africa and you're in a place more beautiful than the carribean and the bahamas. And yeah I see what you guys are getting at about the whole African-American and Black American thing. The standard isnt gonna change for you though. BTW america has the laziest people. Theres just as many lazy whites out there. Just more to make up for it. I have never seen a country as lazy and selfish as our own but you know what? I like this country.

Sam, hope you don't mind the edit. Thought expounding on your thought was appropriate.

With the anonymity of the internet I figured it was some stupid white kid trying to be gangsta. If he is actually black he's doing a brilliant job of reinforcing negative stereotypes.

I'm an American who has been to Africa twice. East both times, will be visiting West this spring. My sister has been living there for 3 years and my brother in law with his family lived there 4 years. Strangely I have never heard a true African person say anything remotely like "Yo Dog, we has some bitches in da house." Not once!

I don't think it's quite fair to summarize an entire continent like that, sixshooter. I understand where you're coming from but...

Just for grins, some of these pics are of the US, and others of Africa. Which is which? (no cheating)

To continue Koto's thought. People do tend to think of Africa as a nation, not a continent covered with many different nations. It's much like referring to Europe. Many north Americans don't quite get that African nations, climate, landscape and populations are as diverse as Europe's, perhaps more so.

Sam, I think when brain mentioned that african americans use rascism to justify their failure he was reffering to those who are failures, not the ones that overcame it at least that how I understood it and how I see it myself.

In regard to Africa, in my opinion is a continent were there are very wealthy countries and extremely poor ones. However through the media all you see is the bad side, I bet when you mentioned Africa to most people all they think of is kids starving with rhynos for pets.

Anywho since Africa was brought up, anyone follows the upcoming World Cup??

I have tried to get things done in a couple of Caribbean nations before and "Island time" is no friggin' joke. And there is some pretty serious multi-generational laziness in Italy and Spain. You can work from 8 to 12 am, go home, eat, sleep some more, work from 4 to 6 pm, go home and rest, go out at 8 or 9 and drink, get dinner at 10, drink, go home at midnight or 2 am. They have more fun than we do, but they have a lot shorter workdays (obviously not in all cases) Many Western European countries are at a 32-36 hour work week and get a lot more vacation days than we do.

And the more we reward laziness with free handouts, the more people will accept that reward. People that come to this country and work hard to acheive are either from countries where you had to learn to work hard to survive, or were from countries where they were not free to acheive and fought to come here and be free.

Koto,
Yeah, I know it is like the big difference between Utah and Mississippi. Still, from Cairo to Johannesburg, Dakar to Andudu, I've got only a marginal interest in visiting, and I'm really into travelling off the beaten path.

All,
We do have a very high standard of living that leads us to have the fattest "poor" people in the world. People living below the poverty line in this country typically have an automobile, a color television, a cell phone, running water, a bed, shoes, more than a week's worth of clothes, a microwave oven, and a refridgerator. If you make $35,000 a year, you make more than 95% of the people in the world. If you make $50,000 a year, you make more than 99% of the people in the world. And yet our government steals our money that we worked hard for and gives it to fat, lazy people who constantly make bad descisions. Lottery tickets anyone?

The poor people aren't fat because they eat like kings, they're fat because they eat only cheap processed food with no nutritional value. Your body knows what it needs and that's why you crave certain foods sometimes. If you crave something high in vitamins and eat something with no vitamins, your body will still desire more food until it gets what it needs. lather, rinse, repeat and you have poor people eating 6 59 cent hamburgers because their body can't be satisfied. unhealthy and fat.

I pretty much 100% disagree about the whole food thing. Oatmeal is cheap as ****. Fruit and vegetables, not all that expensive. There is plenty of food out there that is inexpensive and good for you. You can't tell me you have never craved food that has no nutritional value. You are not craving that food because your body needs it, it's because YOU want it.

you have to watch it in HD, the cam work gives you a headache in SD and you stop wanting to watch it because of the refresh rate. i loved the movie, it was the truest form of racism (see post #69 if you think I'm being hateful) and the best scifi in a while, even more so it's closest to the the reality of what would really happen.

Fixed.

y8s,
I'm with FRT on this one. It is much cheaper to eat at home if you are poor. Rice and beans are really cheap and good for you. Corn meal and wheat flour are cheaper than canned biscuits, but canned biscuits or McMuffins are for the lazy and fat. And the fact that poor people are fat and eating at McDonalds reinforces the fact that they are making bad decisions with their money and their lives. And they make a multitude of bad decisions in perpetuity throughout their lives. Lets talk about poor people and disproportionate use of tobacco (with no nutritional value).

They make bad decisions that are supported by government subsidies.

Ever stop and wonder why McDonalds is so friggin' cheap. Makes it easy for people to make bad decisions.
