Mach929 10-31-2007 08:02 PM

things just piss me off so much anymore i seriously consider vigilantism and a a coup de tat

Ben 10-31-2007 08:04 PM

Yeah the red light cameras suck too.
"I wasn't even on that road that day."
"Here's your picture."
"FUCK!"

neogenesis2004 10-31-2007 08:04 PM

Get some of that clear spray paint that refracts light from the flash. Although, I don't think that will help you during the day.

miataspeed1point6 10-31-2007 08:28 PM

In a near by town they installed this LED speed limit sign that has a strobe light on it. When you exceed the speed limit it flashes the strobe light. I just about shit myself when it started flashing. Thankfully there is no camera, but I was afraid to speed at all for about a week.

cueball1 10-31-2007 08:28 PM

My wife got one for 31 in a 25. A lousy 6 MPH over? How chicken sh*t is that!

y8s 10-31-2007 08:58 PM

Mark, this will bother you more: in the district i hear the limit is 11mph over for tickets. one mph slower and you would have been safe. heh.

soflarick 10-31-2007 09:07 PM

The spray on stuff does not work. Mythbusters did a show on plate concealment measures. The only one that seemed to work was the one that refracted the light (?). Simple tinted covers didn't work, either.

i enjoy the ones that monitor speed so that they can lower it due to all the dumbasses that slow down when they see their speed in large lights, i light it up until it blinks itself an ulcer

where do they mount the speed camera's? stoplights or random poles on the side of the road?

Stealth97 10-31-2007 10:22 PM

eh, at least it is a state I hate already. I'll stick a porcupine up my ass before I spend any more time in texas.

messiahx 10-31-2007 10:22 PM

Luckily I've never seen a speed camera in WI. Also, I'm the guy that sees how fast I can go by the time I hit the sign...which was right outside of where I worked last summer, so I got to do it a lot :). I've heard that you pretty much can't speed anywhere near a city in England because of all the damn cameras. Wonder how Top Gear gets away with all their stuff.

Marc D 10-31-2007 10:22 PM

i think those are illegal here by law in california, thank god. i read someone in the drivers code book. someone correct me.

oh and look for the tick marks on the pavement. = obvious!

Juffa 10-31-2007 10:40 PM

Ha, wait until they implement the latest revenue bucket that has just been installed here. There is a set of cameras beside the road, you drive past, they take a picture of the rear of your car/truck/motor cycle. A few Km/Miles down the road there is another set of cameras. They take your photo and compute how long it took for you to travel between the two points. If your time beween the two point was too short you will recieve a fine in the mail for speeding. I assume they can only fine you on the average speed, rather than the top speed you may have reached. It forces you to keep your average speed within reason, rather speeding up and then slowing down was you would do with the older type of cameras.

magnamx-5 11-01-2007 08:29 AM

Fucking bullshit how could they prove that you where driving the car mark a picture is only worth the shit they smear on it tell them to shove it up there ass and find real proof Fight that shit man GL

m2cupcar 11-01-2007 10:13 AM

It's not about them proving anything- it's about the accused proving innocence. Nobody gets points, just pay fines. Easy revenue and not worth most people's time to spend a half day fighting a $50 fine.

I got burned with a stop light cam. Second car turning left, guy in front stops for a pedestrian crossing during a don't walk. I get stuck in the middle of the intersection when the light turns red, while the camera takes the pic. Bend over and say "cheese".:ky:

MX_Eva 11-01-2007 10:34 AM

It's pretty gay, I've gotten a ticket in DC for that shit. They put it right after a semi confusing exit ramp, where you can't actually see the sign for the exit until you are right up on it. (not sure street name but someone here should know). Anyway, there was a car that came out of that exit lane to mine, i had to speed up to avoid getting hit, and voila! I get 100 dollar ticket in the mail...thank you DC.

Braineack 11-01-2007 10:57 AM

This is why I don't go into DC. along with a huge list of various other complaints.

magnamx-5 11-01-2007 11:12 AM

Does innocent until proven guilty mean nothing to you guys WTF. Bend over nothing principles and rights are worth more than money. We should not let ourselves get raped by the system like that. the ticket is not sent to the car it is sent to who owns the registration so if say you take your moms car out and get snapped doing over the limit she will get the ticket in those situations or if someone steals your car or you leave it at a parking garage or valet lot and the motherfuckers go do a bunch of other shit in your car then gues who gets fucked thats right you. The rights we give up so easily today can become alot bigger in a hurry tommorow.

Braineack 11-01-2007 11:14 AM

you're on government property. and you were proven guilty, the camera took your picture.

m2cupcar 11-01-2007 11:32 AM

It's an issue of time more than anything to fight that. It's not practical to spend the three or so hours fighting the charge. But in my case, it's pretty black and white - I was in the intersection when the light turned red. If anybody screwed me, it was the dumbfuck in front who yeilded to jay walking pedestrian.

Braineack 11-01-2007 11:45 AM

hahah
speaking of, someone beside me this morning stopped on a 40mph road for someone standing waiting to cross at a crosswalk, dumbass got rear-ended bad.

ray_sir_6 11-01-2007 11:45 AM

I haven't heard of speed cameras getting installed where I live. They are going big on the stop-light cameras though. A few months ago, Arlington didn't have any, and now they have 6 that I know of.

Stoplight cameras aren't supposed to take pics of cars that are stuck in the intersection, or making rights, etc. They use a sensor in the road or a radar/laser gun to determine the car's speed immediately before the yellow turns to red, and uses that to determine if you can slow in time. If the car is determined to not be able to stop in time, it takes a pic of the intersection.

My wife got a redlight ticket in the mail, and it clearly showed in the pic that she had already entered the intersection before the light turned red. If your vehicle has crossed the stop line, then you are "in the intersection", and if you did this before the light turned red, you legally made the light. You can be ticketed for "running a yellow" if a cop sees you accelerate to make the light. This doesn't require you to be speeding. The only reason we had to pay the ticket was cause the city decided to mail it out late (post mark was 3 days before the ticket was due) and we didn't get it till the final day, and it was already 7pm before we get home and get the mail. So we called and they said, "Sorry, we can't set a court date cause you already past the date required to pay or dispute the citation."

Stealth97 11-01-2007 11:46 AM

In GA we have laws to protect Jaywalkers from folks like us making their hood-rich style pimp limp real.

Zabac 11-01-2007 11:57 AM

stop light cameras were banned in Greensboro NC after too many people complained about wrecking due to the flashes, and now they just sit there and are not being used, its been so for the last three or so years...we win!!!

I agree with you there. I try to fight them every step of the way. It's my money, if they want it, they can work for it, too.

In the intersection when it turns red is not running a red light. Entering the intersection after red is running a red light. Read the traffic code some, they like to take advantage of the uneducated.

Last I heard, Texas was in the middle of a legal battle over the stop-light cameras. I am amazed the cities are still setting them up. They are suing cause it's not a "safety improvement", but just a money making technique for the cities, and therefore, must be voted on (like tax increases, etc).

Ben 11-01-2007 12:51 PM

Well here's the kicker, and tells you why the cams get set up. Typically, the cameras are gifted to the municipality by its manufacturer under an agreement that for every ticket generated, the camera manufacturer receives a (very large) perentage of the collected revenue it generates. I have seen ratios of 75% to the manufacturer and 25% to the municipality pretty regularly. The government goes forward with the plan because the equipment costs them nothing, and all they need is a very small staff of people to handle signing the citations and mailing them out. BIG revenue generator. I got one of those red light tickets, it was like $80 I think. It came from the county. And to side-step any potential legal battles, it's not considered a real traffic (moving) violation; instead it's treated like a parking ticket and doesn't add points against your liscense.

the issue is with revenue. They don't know how to divide the money used on state and federal funded roads.

I don't mind the stoplight cams, but they remove the element of collision evasion. Speed laws suck because they're based on revenue, not safety. I refuse to believe that even with traffic load, the mechanical capabilities of modern cars are lower than capabilities of cars from the 80mph speed limit days. When traffic load goes up, speeds lower naturally, we don't need the lower limit. ( I banged a city engineer's daughter in highschool)

I don't think they have speed/redlight cameras in Jersey but they do in NY and since I drive through Staten Island a few days a week now to see the girlfriend I installed free Redlight/Speed camera POIs on my TOMTOM last night http://www.gps-data-team.com/poi/united_states/safety/
