Lol, I just spit some food out.

Congestion is another problem. With so many people on the road bad shit is more liklely to happen. I realized when I was going through the Holland Tunnel coming home from TN that hurtling down a mountain at Deal's Gap was safer than driving through NJ and NY.

oilstain 08-27-2008 07:19 PM

Tiered licensing!

Those who can prove that they can drive well at speed, can. Those that cannot, cant.

Add shit to our license plates so that anyone and everyone can see if there is a lame duck hanging out in the left lane.

I don't know, I think it's a start. It can reward good drivers and keep the retards down.

hey some legally blind people drive better than good seeing ones...so many fuckfaces out there that suck at driving so bad even a bicycle would be too much responsibility for them. just today heading to a project in santa rosa, the left lane all of a sudden goes down to 45ish and huge traffic. all other lanes are moving 65 so I change lanes to the right and speed up to see what the problem is.

WHEN I SAW IT I WANTED TO CHOKE BABIES:mad:

this mid 30's bitch is driving with a big ass mirror in one hand, and eye liner in the other, doing her lashes. she is in the left lane going 45 with the whole lane ahead of her completely empty. OMG!!! I waved to here and started screaming " PAY ATTENTION TO THE ROAD BITCH" but no response whatsoever. now this bitch has a white miata next to her, window open, and a big fat guy yelling at her and she doesnt even notice. how the FUCK is she to actually pay attention to the road?

wow, seriously I got so mad my blood pressure went up....probably not the best way to do it, but I cut in front of here and started swerving left and right with my flashers on. FINALLY the ---- notices me and stares. I screamed at her some more and showed her all the gestures I can and pretty much used up my whole cuss word vocabulary till she changed lanes and sped up, startled, but paying attention. fucking bitch

/rant

and sorry to go off topic.

I'll be entirely honest. I park my car at exactly the speed limit. It just isnt worth the extra gas and possible tickets to exceed it.

Pointless to speed unless i'm on a closed road. Spirited acceleration is more fun anyways.

urgaynknowit 08-27-2008 09:04 PM

well this just tickled my fancy today

on the way to work today, i travel through a road that has a speed limit of 45
there is a giant center divider in the middle, and one lane going each way. so most people cruise at about 50.
so im cruising at about 45-50 and i notice up ahead there is three cars stuck behind a forth car. this car is doing a modest 22 miles and hour..... this forth car is not exactly in the lane, hes kind of sitting in the break down lane, which happens to be a bike lane in this area. so slowly, people start passing him. me being the dick that i am, i pull along side him (had the top down, **not exactly the smartest idea) i was planning on yelling at him. and when i came along side him, i gasped....
this man had an oxigen tank sitting in the back seat and had the tubes running up his nose. he must have been 90+ years old. im telling you this dude was soo old he owed jesus money.... i slowly drove away in awww at the fact that this man still had his license. he couldnt distinguish the difference between the lane and the bike lane, and had no clue he was going 22 in a 45....

i was powerless..... and i hated it...

johndoe 08-27-2008 09:10 PM

I'd also vote for mandatory relicensing tests every year from 16-20 years of age and 65 years old and up.

Awwww.

Uh....

Mandatory spelling/comprehension tests would be interesting.

Anyway, I speed because I have a long ass commute. If I save 15 minutes each trip, that's 2.5 hours of my week that I get back, 10 hours a month, 5 days a year. I'm not getting paid for driving to work, and I'm not counting that as time for myself either. I want to get it over with.

If there is a legal way for this to happen, I'm okay with it. If I just have to move people out of the way, and skate by the law, I'm okay with that too.

Cat and mouse, and the mouse runs the same maze every day, learns where the traps are, gets good at recognizing the pitfalls, uses a cat detector, and tries not to fall into complacency. At least it keeps me awake in the morning. I'm less likely to fall asleep and take out some fellow commuters.

johndoe 08-27-2008 10:24 PM

so how fast do you drive to work in the morning? Average mph?

Doppelgänger 08-27-2008 10:46 PM

Some of you fuckers need to come drive in Atlanta for awhile. 55?? Right... you'll be doing 90 in the right lane and getting passed like you're standing still. The cops won't nab you until you're at 16+ over the posted speed limit. Hell, there is a state road here where the speed limit is 55 and one of the cities along it (Lawrenceville) often has police on it. There was a time where the police blatantly said they won't pull anyone over unless they are exceeding 70mph.....

People haul ass everywhere in Ga. I've been to many other cities and i don't recall any of them being as insane-on-th-road as Atlanta.

Try Dubia , or Kuwait city. those people are crazy!!

18psi 08-28-2008 01:39 AM

where I was born (ukraine) there is barely any speed limits at all, and the places that have em the cops are either drunk or you can give em 10 bux (thats right american money) and theyll pretend they didnt see you:giggle:

I only speed in areas that are open with little to no traffic. I agree on saving time getting to work, if I went the speed limit the whole way it would probably take me close to 45-50 minutes. If I leave a couple minutes early, and go 10, 15mph over I can usually get there in 20 25 minutes.
If I dont speed, traffic catches up and I'm 20 minutes late to work.
Screw getting up earlier, I'd rather "endanger" people with my speeding, over driving with only 5 hours of sleep.

Little basic math.

If you're doing 60mph and you have to go 60 miles, it would take you 1 hour.

To do that in 30 min, you would have to go 120mph.

Therefore to just do 10, 15mph over the speed limit and cut times in half, the speed limit would have to be 10-15mph.

edit: point here being, the amount of time you make up, unless you are on a huge commute is near negligable compared to the increase in gas consumption and possibility of a speeding ticket. I am a reformed speeder. Apparently the system works. Two 20mph and over tickets in a row in one month convinced me it was a bad idea. Namely it was a laser & an airplace which tracked my speed and I had a top of the line radar detector.

You missed a part of his equation: Traffic!

His point was that if he leaves at his normal time, and doesn't speed, he gets caught in a wave of people who slow down his commute. He can no longer go 65. I know I've lived/worked in situations where if I left five minutes to 5:00, I could get home in 10 minutes, if I left at 5:00 on the dot, it would take about 25.

For JohnDoe: I usually average 80-85 once on the highway. That speed is faster than most, but not so fast that it draws much attention. There are a few places I back off and sneak back into the middle lane because of some long sweepers that I can't see more than a couple football fields ahead.

I use a motorcycle technique that I learned, and that is to look ahead. FAR ahead. Doing this, I can get a good handle on what each car is going to do in the next few seconds pretty much as far as I can see. Search, Evaluate, Execute. Always have a plan, always have an escape.

I drive fast, but I try to drive smart. I don't get close to people, I don't have to slam on the brakes, I don't have to accelerate fast, I don't have to say "oh shit, where do I go now? I'm stuck" I don't do anything that would startle another driver. And if for some reason, I find that I just did one of those things, I berate myself, slow down, and start actively scanning again.

nicacus 08-28-2008 01:10 PM

Oilstain is right..
If I hit traffic I my average speed for the entire trip is proabably 35mph. (a lot of which is completely stopped for 5 minutes at a time)
So really I am doubling my speed if I leave early
