gospeed81 03-27-2010 02:19 PM

It's a Mighty Max...we used to have one.

They had a larger displacement motor, but I think the block was from the same DSM family.

WonTon 03-27-2010 02:20 PM

Mighty Max?

i just did a lil google on it, and i can see DSM engines and small trucks n shit!

That thing was floaty with stock horsepower...he's gonna have to put as much into suspension as motor or it will be very entertaining.

Here's a swap thread:

God I hope I'm wrong on this. Sounds like something that would get the judges' attention though.

Joe Perez 03-27-2010 04:14 PM

It's either a Beetle or a Karmann Ghia, with an engine swap.

Since it's GRM fodder, I'm leaning towards Beetle.

turotufas 03-27-2010 04:27 PM

I'm going with the E30. But if its a Datsun I'll buy it when your done!

Ben 03-28-2010 09:05 PM

One of you guys actually got shockingly close. I was surprised.

Sparetire 03-28-2010 09:43 PM

MMs kick ass. I had one for about a year. You can pretty well bolt up a 4G63 or 4G64/G4CS into it. Some work to make the TB face right, but tons of room in the bay, and that thing weighs nothing. Mine had a 2.2L IIRC and it got up and moved much much better than my S10 does.

skidude 03-29-2010 08:11 PM

I don't have a clue what it is, but I'm subscribed to find out!

wildfire0310 03-30-2010 02:43 AM

Oh.. I like some of the guesses :D

BTW.. Ben you/we need to hit up the local pull-a-part... seems like some well needed parts are there :D

miataspeed2005 03-30-2010 07:23 AM

I'm also going with Damon and saying small pick up....I've seen a couple of those

Ben 03-30-2010 08:39 AM

Ben 03-31-2010 09:17 PM

Eclipse ECU is built and installed.

People think that their B6 and BP engines "take to boost." I think that these people have never come across a 4G63. The biggest MAP sensor we have in stock is 4-bar. And this thing will use every bit of that. Yeah, it runs 40 pounds of boost. 40. It's not just for diesel trucks.

It also revs to 8500, and sounds delicious.

I am truly excited to get started on this project. We will only be making ballpark 350 wheel, but we should also be <2000 pounds.

Yea the 4g are just evil evil motors. They are always rated in the top 5 for the best 4cyl motors and can make into the 800+ whp. Oh and side, note that nice GSX in your shop isn't then the fastest 4g in the state. :)

** also the one in the shop is a 4g64... aka 2.4L

spoolin2bars 04-03-2010 05:04 PM

he said one of you guys were close. for some reason i don't think it's a truck. somebody else said it's a beetle, and that would match the 2010 grm type build. but i'm gonna say (even though it might not be able to be built for $2010 doallars depending on the condition of the shell) early 70's-80's 911

Reverend Greg 04-03-2010 07:50 PM

Ben I would Like to help If it is a GRM 2010 entrant.

fmowry 04-04-2010 09:25 AM

Beetle shells are pricey nowadays. Hell, could be a Ford Ranger for that matter. Plentiful and cheap.

turotufas 04-22-2010 08:04 PM

Ben. Are you planning to go public with this build, or keep it secret? I'm curious.

Ben 04-22-2010 08:52 PM

This one's under wraps until substantial completion.
