There is this cat in our neighborhood that we originally thought was a stray because he spends all day and night hanging around our house. We fed him a couple of times because he would sneak in and eat our cat's food. Well now he never goes away. Every once and awhile we'll give him some food and he quickly gobbles it up like he's starving. I was given the impression by someone in the past that cat's only eat what they need (when they are adults) and if they're eating it means that they're hungry or not getting something in their diet.

Well now this cat has a collar with no address or phone number on it so we know he has a home somewhere near by but now days he is seriously around our house 24hrs a day! Now at night he even scratches at the doors to be let in. We test it out one night and let him in. He ate a full serving of cat food and went and passed out in the bedroom closet on some sweaters.

So can cats just be glutinous? We feed our cat very good expensive food (makes a huge difference by the way) so perhaps this cat's owner is just feeding him shitty food and he isn't getting everything he needs. He's a super cool cat and currently he and our cat get along seemingly fine. We aren't opposed to taking him in permanently if he really does need a better home but i'm not sure how we'd go about that at this point.

He is the gray cat on the left. Hence we have named him gray cat.



You can see here that he isn't skinny. He is pretty solid.

Rescued strays will do the overeating thing, too. I have a pair, and while one is fairly normal (as far as cats go), the other is a pig, and has become a bit fat.

If you didn't know when or where your next meal was, wouldn't you bulk up when you got the chance?

+1 My older cat is perfectly normal weight, while the one I got from a shelter is friggin obese.

I have two cats at my moms house and my freind has 8 at here house the only cat I have ever met that is seriously over weight is this one. He was someones cat and I gues they threw him out because he had a collar and clean fur but was very very underweight when she got him and now he is 32 lbs. I would hope your new cat freind is just hungry.

Ok I think we'll stop feeding him then. He definitely has a stopping point which is why I thought perhaps he wasn't eating enough at home. I figured a cat with an eating disorder would just never stop.

Its so hard for me to turn him away when he's scratching at the door and begging :(

It weird because the cat I posted before only eats a little more than the other cats every day but he dose not seem to gorge himself till he can't move he just makes more trips to the food bowl for a snack. So it is hard to tell if the other cat is just hungry or just likes your house and food. In most cases I would say he is hungry but if he starts to look like the big cat I would leave him be.

I used to feed my cat treats. I cant do it any more, she become neurotic and anytime she heard the drawer opening in which they were stored she's nearly kill herself to run over and get some or she'd just camp it out and wait. Even if I moved them, she caught on and it was her new favorite place to sit and be lazy. She still to this day expects treats if you go near the first drawer...

I'd consider my my cats hefty, but I leave food out for them and just refill the bowl if it's low. I recently started cutting it back because the one snores, shes a good 13lbs, the other 11lbs.

Reminds me of my cat, looks and behavior. We rescued her from some white trailer trash **** and she wasn't fed that well. Ate everything in sight for quite a while until she got used to her feeding schedule. After that she settled down and isn't as much of a little piggy.

Our cat is similar. He loves his treats but doesn't expect it. He loves it when we give them to him and there is a strong pavlov effect when we crinkle the bag just like your drawer. Our cat is very pushy with wet food however and will chase us around the house and bat at our feet til we give it to him lol.

they also both freak out if I make a pen click, because my laser pointer clicks when I push the button and they both expect a red dot of fun. The girl also loves to be brushed and if I stroke the bristles she'll come running for her perm.



anyways, that looks like a well feed cat that enjoys your *****.

our laser pointer has a chain on it, and even the slightest movement they both think it's "game on". we keep it on a the coffee table and it gets accidentally moved often

I remember as a kid going to a friend's house near dinner time because they often served better tasting food than what my parents put on the table. Sounds like the same principle

wow! i love cats, those r some good pics....some fatties. lol..they r just spoiled.i just lost my maine coon..she was 12lbs no fat they r just big animals. she died of cancer last spring. i believe she was cancerous in this pic she looked kinda thin.

One of my cat's is a complete retard. He will eat non stop if the food is there. One day I forgot to put the lid back on a big tin I keep the catfood in. He ate till he barfed, and then continued doing so until the food was all gone. Of course he wouldn't eat his barf, had to be fresh.

I also have to buy him special huge sized cat food because he doesn't chew. He normally chews the massive stuff but every once in a while I come across a huge pile of completely unchewed catfood...

Gray cat was just scratching at the door. I opened it a crack and he forced his way in and I couldn't get him to leave. I didn't let him eat.

In better news I learned that my cat doesn't care what it is that comes out of his treat bag. I pulled some cat food out of it and he ate it like treats. He wouldn't do the same with the cat food straight from the bowl. I'm a bit disappointed to be honest that he isn't smarter than that.

what is it? I have this same issue with mine, she doesn't chew then barfs whole pellets cause she eats too fast. I have to feed her vasoline too so she ***** out hairballs and has more room in her stomach.
