me: portal comes today.
prez of company: oh yeah? you going to rush home and play?
me: yup... I'll leave at 2 or whenever the truck comes with it.
prez: too bad we don't have that PS3 set up in the conference room attached to the big screen
me: I told you we need to make our head mounted displays stereo HDMI compatible!
prez: hey EE guy!
EE guy: blah blah hdmi 1.4 chips weren't available when this first came up blah blah
sad. I might have to limit myself to non-3D

One of my favorite games EVER was Black for XBox1. I've waited years for Black 2 to come out (for the 360) but the prez of the company said unless they can do something new with the game there was no reason to release another one. I am very interested to know if Portal 2 is just the same old thing as the original. Anyone want to comment on the originality?
FWIW, I've had the game for 3 days but have not gotten around to playing it due to 12 hour shifts (I need my sleep and know that I will not get any once I start).

Ditto. Just got home with the last copy on the shelf, so if anybody else in 92081 is looking for one, I advise you to avoid that particular Best Buy.
And hey, just what I needed, yet another little resident doo-dad hanging out in the system tray. Hooray!
Once I figure out this Steam thing, I'll be logged in as thraddax.

Steam is easy Joe, although is a useless 16mb leech when you're not using it. It's weird to pay the same price for nothing, although I suppose I just end up throwing away my game boxes and never read the pamphlets anyways.
I'm going to get the xbox version, I want it to run smoothly and haven't had good luck with my PC.

IMO playing this on the PC is the only way to go with this game, unless you're really good with the whole thumbstick controller thing which I never was. I also have a pretty beefy gaming computer...
I'm about 2/3 through the game now. Momentarily stuck. Can't find any decent video walkthroughs for the section I'm on now, so it's time to sleep on it and give it another go tomorrow.
So far though, this game has been fantastic. Different enough from the first game to keep me interested, but still has the same elements that kept me interested in the first game. 100% recommended. But you DO need to play the original to really get what's going on in the 2nd.

Minor gripe: Holy cow, have they gone over the deep end with the graphics on this one. That XKCD cartoon was right. I could easily play the first one with all of the detail & resolution settings maxed. I had to really crank down the settings on P2 in order to achieve a smooth display.
Major gripe: In the original, if you were holding an object, you could release it either by pressing E or with a mouse click. In this one, you have to release it by pressing E, even though you can't launch a portal while you're carrying an object anyway.
Praise: Well, ****. It's Portal. +2 points for clever use of the phrase "lethal military android" in a bureaucratic context.

I just built this computer last year. Quad-core i5, 8 gigs of RAM... The video card wasn't a particularly cheap-*** unit. Definitely not a high-end unit, but it's a GeForce 210 with a half-gig of memory on it:
