Default So I went to the drag strip last night......

Well, for the first time in 7yrs I actually went to the strip to see what I could do. Unfortunatly this was at Commerce Ga... which is known to be a SUPER SHITTY track. About the only thing one can do up there is compare times to other cars that are running on the same night. Also, it's known to be .5 to 1 second SLOWER than any other 1/4mi strip around (Silver Dollar).

Well i did a 13.9 @ 100 according to their clocks
But for comparison, there was a new G8 there that was running 14.2. Also, so we can comprehend how crappy the track is, I ran against an STi that had "turned up the boost", some kind of engine management running a 2-step/launch control, big *** dump pipe, FMIC and God knows what else.... and I was nose to tail with him the whole way down the track... he only pulled me on the launch (his 13.8 to my 13.9). I'd feel safe assuming that if I ever feel like making the 2hr drive to Silver Dollar, i'd be running 13.0's....maybe 12.9.

It was fun to watch TONS of cars running 15's lol. All of the S2000s that were running were in the 15's, all of the 350Zs/G35's were in the 15's, Mazdaspeed 3 was running 15.0, SRT4's were averaging low 14's.......

Sounds like a shitty track, have you run it anywhere else?

Lol, your times sound corrected for 5500ft altitude.

I regularly see stis run high 14's, s2k/rsx's with mods never break 15's, stock srt4s usually 15's, etc.

dont be upset man, **** happens and a shitty track just helps you become a better driver.
one thing that bothered me though: when people not knowing exactly whats on a car say "turned up boost, launch control, and GOD KNOWS WHAT ELSE"..

sorry, but it makes me laugh every time. higher boost and 2step launch control can be bought for 30 dollars as a generic xpt map, and fmic and dump tube dont mean ****: lots of idiots run those on an otherwise stock sti and put out the image of fast car to others. the car is still near stock power wise and when a car like that gets beat people think they just ran a 11's race car and beat it

but your car is nice as hell and fast im sure so dont get me wrong: props to you

Thanks.

But let me explain....
Exactly that, i don't know **** about STi's. They run what, low/near 13 in stock trim? I'd imagine that it doesn't take much to make the well down into the 12's. That alone is enough to nearly ensure a complete ***-pounding at the strip against a 250rwhp Miata. Hell, look at your sig.... "360 hp - nearly stock". Generally, here in Ga, the STi crowd isn't the "i got handed an STi"...pretty much everyone i know who is into Scoobies has well thought out mods. I'd feel safe assuming that one next to me at the strip was indeed a pretty damn fast car.

well hey, a 250rwhp miata is no slouch at all, so I have no problem hearing about you being dead even with a mid 12's sti.....in fact, I think that is what happened. I laughed at that comment not because I didnt believe you man, just that its what everyone says and often its not true.

oh and about my sig lol, that car was running a 20g 8cm turbo, supporting mods, sti ra gears, and some other key parts, so It wasnt almost stock, Im just a sarcastic *******

in any case, Id have loved to see a video of your car in action: ill be hoping for similar power numbers out of mine as well

i want to go to the track badly, i even have some slicks that will fit the miata. but i really don't want to find out what will happen if i do a 5000rpm launch on slicks with my 1.6 open rearend.

S'all good. I just wanted to explain my obsevations

I was also gaining on him ever so slightly toward the last few hundred rpm's in 4th... and then I missed 5th

My gearing was "eh" at best for the track and tire size I was running. I fell about 200ft short of being able to run 4th out, so I had to go for 5th. But i missed 5th my first two runs and on my other runs where i dod get 5th, i felt like i might as well have just left the car in neutral because i was getting in gear and just getting into full boost as i crossed the line.

ive seen quite a few people just bounce off the limiter (not in a miata though) that last 100ft or so and get better times than when they shifted

What kind of 60' times were you running. Was the trouble all at the launch or were you spinning further down the track too? 13.9 and 100 sounds pretty respectable for the 1st time in a long time and on a crappy track.

All my trouble came from the launch. I launched @ 3000 rpm and bogged when I ran the STi, every other launch i spun all the way through 1st like your typical ricer :( Also, my worst run of 14.5@98.5 was when it started raining and i spun 1st, 2nd and 3rd... it was actually pretty scary and i was surprised they let us go.

meh... here is the specs form my first run...

r/t .487
60' 2.306
330 6.039
1/8 9.102
mph 81.00
1000 11.701
1/4 13.99
mph 100.02

the STi was

r/t .408
60' 1.998
330 5.781
1/8 8.900
mph 79.51
1000 11.548
1/4 13.790
mph 100.54

You can see I was starting to pull ever so slightly... but you can also tell that i missed 5th :(

that sti driver is a pansy *** or the timer is wrong... a 2.0 60' is slower than ***** for awd and that power level.

r/t=.4? were you sleeping? lol jk when the last light goes yellow thats when you launch.

I ran a 14.5 at 101 on my setup so I totally feel you about bad track conditions and whatnot. around that power level you should def. be low 13's and maybe on a really good day 12.90's but you'd still get to say you have a 12 second miata.

It only takes money to buy mods and a car. It takes practice to launch a car, be it 2wd or AWD. Sure 2.0 isn't that impressive but Doppelganger didn't light the worlds on fire with his 2.3 either. They were equally matched in incompetence.

That car has a 13.2 in it with a 1.8 60 ft. Drop that tire pressure.

Here's the **** day at the strip gauge.
