"suck" is being 5 days from expired tags.
California tags that is. I either have to get the car inspected by the insurance co and licensed at the DMV before that, or I drive REAL SLOW to the dyno day.
lets keep in mind that the car is undriveable and on jackstands today. 5/8 is D-Day. I think I'm gonna be sick before then. :ugh2: |
way to wait till the last minute.
|
inspected by the insurance co?
|
How can tags expire on a specific day of the month? Aren't they Month/Year? Also, don't you get a 30 day grace period? My tags expired in Apr/07, I thus had until May 31st to register it.
|
mine expire on birthday- AAMOF it's that way for everybody in GA. No grace period- they send you the invoice ~2 months in advance.
|
well... they technically expire on a certain day, but the tags say MAY 2007.
and yeah, would you insure something you hadn't seen? I mean that'd be sweet so any minor damage present I could have repaired for free but they want to see what they're getting into first. |

You best be ready by dyno day
|
You'll be fine. I drove my car for 4 months on expired tags before I finally got the paperwork all sorted out for the transfer of title and crap. The car was paid up, registered through June '07 (dammit I need to send mine in) but I just never got the tag for some reason. Just don't let police officers get behind you. :)

I've never had to have my cars inspected when I put full coverage insurance on them....
Be careful. The fine is pretty severe if you get caught. I think they can tow your car... |
never ever - Y8s must have some kind of crazy driving record
|
i've gotten a ticket for an overdue registration, it was not that much, and it was a couple months after the fact

Register it non-op for now in CA to avoid the "penalties and fees" and then worry about it later. I did have a car without a motor pass cal smog once and get reregistered... at a test only facility no less. Sorry I lost contact with that smog shop.... I could have helped you out. Mark |
LOVE is living in Kentucky.. No inspection, No emissions, No worries.
|
What did you try to register Mark? I remember when you did your big move. :bigtu:
I had a bunch of parking tickets from college one year and couldn't register my car until I paid them. Almost a year after my registration was due, I got pulled over and my car was impounded. I didn't even have to pay the previous year's registration. I just paid the next year's registration early, tow fees, and impound fees. Total cost came to way less than $400. Don't see the problem y8s. Get yourself a new insurance company if the one you have is going to dick you like that. Get AAA. You can pay DMV registration fees and pick up your tags at any site if you have to wait til the last minute and still want to pay on time. This past year I had to get my car smogged. I paid the registration fees on time to avoid late fees, and got my smog test 2 weeks after my tags expired. Took the smog paperwork back to AAA and they gave me my tags. Yeah, California DMV sucks. We know that, but if you live here long enough, you figure our when and where you can push the envelope. Oh, and it normally costs me around $80 to register my car and that's with personalized plates. |
i registered my miata, but it took me 5 tries to pass smog. i finally passed on the day my north carolina plates expired. not sure were you are in Ca, but if you make an appointment, it's a little quicker.
