Soo...it's like RTV, but with silicone?

I thought RTV was silicone.

Huh, point. I didn't even think of that.

So it's just a fancy type of RTV in other words?

Fireindc 03-27-2013 05:14 PM

Looks really gimmicky. Not something I'd buy. I imagine it would be one of those "as seen on TV" products.

y8s 03-27-2013 05:51 PM

it is RTV
it is silicone
it has fillers
it is non-slumping at room temperature so you can mold it into shapes and let it sit overnight to cure into a permanent shape
it sticks to LOTS of stuff including ABS plastic.
it comes in fun colors
and it has been sold on TV. QVC UK.

So it is Room Temperature Vulcanizing Silicone? I wish somebody would have come out with this sooner. lol.

Joe Perez 03-27-2013 06:43 PM

The non-slumping part would be handy.

I commonly use RTV to back-fill connectors, forming a sort of strain-relief around them. To do this, I have to build up a sort of coffer-dam with tape, creating a form for the RTV to fill. It's annoying and never comes out looking nice.

If I could just mold the stuff around the base of the connector like clay, that'd be nice.

you go ahead nad mold some random RTV with your fingers and get it to do something useful and we'll chat about how awesome it was.

At ~$20 for a very small portion I'll work around not having it.

OK as long as you're not making that value test specifically for this product to imply it's a bad product.

If you had a project like Joe that would be greatly improved by the stuff, it'd be worth the cost.

But yeah, it's expensive. Like loctite.

One day they will make everyone undergo Aids testing before being able to join this site.

We have a variety of Dow Corning RTV around the lab and some of it is non-flowing, i.e. it holds its shape. Joe: you can force it into electrical connectors and it won't run out.

Memory is telling me that Permatex gasket maker has this property and is available almost everywhere.
