Super Lap Battle 2014 Buttonwillow 1:47.425

My in car. A friends Evo 9. 26psi and around 460whp I believe. 285/30/18 Hankook Ventus TD softs (C70). Fun

This 1:47.425 lap was good enough for 2nd place in Mod AWD. Would have been the new record but a much better funded and equipped team kicked our ass with a 1:44.026.

mother of god. looks kinda point and shoot... maybe because the car accelerates so fast?

you think a bp powered miata could ever run a lap that quick?

Easily

Emilio
what opportunities for improvement you see in Zhong's car?
You mentioned that it had ~1.5-2.0 seconds improvement potential in lap time: how?
Aside form seat time, of course, that was inadequate.
Thanks

a good driver can make it look easy. Watching a few of the local racers, it almost looks like a Sunday drive for them. Although, I am sure they are not driving to the maximum during races.

I left about .7s on track just with shift points.

Driver:
Offramp should be done in 3rd but with a slower tip in. Jumping on throttle at 3800rpm caused a stumble that wasn't there if I rolled in. I actually ran a lap .02s faster than this video doing offramp in 3rd but with the stumble. Last run of the day so no chance to correct the mistake.

Stay in 4th from Riverside to braking zone for Sweeper.

Car:
Easiest changes would be better brakes and tweak map to eliminate acceleration stumble from 3000-4500rpm. Those two things would be worth 1s I think. Combine them with driver tweak and a few more laps to test for a high 1:45. I had trouble getting enough braking torque to engage ABS all day. The torque curve was broad enough to eliminate a few shifts.

Next tier of speed is just $$$. Less weight, change weight distribution, more power, better suspension, much better aero, close ratio dog box, blah blah.
