boost logic

TurboMiatKid 12-03-2006 11:57 AM

Thats what i was thinking, Do you have any idea what they charge? I know there really good. One of the workers comes out to the same car meet as me. Boost logic is also high on price form what i hear.

Braineack 12-03-2006 02:48 PM

don't trust yourself? read my FAQ on doing it.

hustler 12-03-2006 03:19 PM

its not hard to do. The going rate is like $250 at most places.

Braineack 12-03-2006 03:44 PM

jeez. costs just over $40 for the basic kit.

samnavy 12-03-2006 03:48 PM

I don't know how those god damn speed shops get $250 for a $75 kit (that they probably get cheaper) and 1/2 hour worth of labor... unless that includes them taking it out of your car and reinstalling it plus a test and tune or something. If that $250 doesn't include pulling it and reinstalling it in your car ask for an itemized invoice... it really shouldn't take any more than about 1/2 hour for a trained guy with the right tools.

DUDE, do it yourself. Buy one of the GpopShop's $78 kits http://www.gpopshop.com/garrettt3kits.html and give it a whirl... Or if you're really scared, buy a kit from your local place, try it yourself, and if you just can't manage, take it to them to finish and you're better off for the attempt at least.

Check out Brains Rebuild Thread, and read through my T25 Rebuild thread... IT'S EASY!!!!

1. Remove the housings
2. Remove the compressor wheel.
3. Pull turbine wheel and shaft out.
4. Remove guts of turbo (bearings, clips, little space-ship thing, etc...) noting the order you took them out it.
5. Replace in same order new parts.
6. Stick shaft in place and attach compressor wheel.
7. Re-attach housings.

Hints:
1. Lube everything with oil as you install it.
2. Don't force anything... it all fits really easy.

Special tools:
1. A good sized vice is a big help.
2. Snap ring pliers (a big pair for the compressor housing, and a small pair for the c-clips under the housings.)
3. Set of dental pics.

Braineack 12-03-2006 03:52 PM

yeah, if sam can do it anyone can. :gay:

Turbomiatkid, so are you getting back in the game?

miatamania 12-03-2006 04:06 PM

Where is the best place to get the snap ring pliers? and how big is big? lol

Atlanta93LE 12-03-2006 04:12 PM

I got mine for $5 at Northern Tool. They came with three different end attachments for different angles. Worked great on the giant circlip.

Not with a miata this time. It looks as if that will be pushed back agin. Im getting a 450hp tallon. with just about everything done but looks like shit.:)

TurboMiatKid 12-03-2006 04:32 PM

I think ill try my self....

TurboMiatKid 12-04-2006 11:38 PM

So the turbo is not a T3 its a 20G... Now what. lol

Atlanta93LE 12-04-2006 11:41 PM

20G? That's pretty big for a Miata...but that's not the topic at hand, sorry.

The Mitsu turbos are really easy to rebuild as well. Search google for a vfaq 16g rebuild instruction...there's a decent one, and it should be quite similar to the 20g.

TurboMiatKid 12-04-2006 11:48 PM

Ok, I will do that. They use the same seals right? So i can just buy a 16G rebuild kit?

Ike 12-05-2006 12:53 AM

How about a new nearly new one... http://austin.craigslist.org/pts/244224282.html (no affiliation, I just saw it)

Atlanta93LE 12-05-2006 07:04 AM

I'm not sure if the seals are identical. Take a look at the gpopshop website at rebuild kits...they spell it out pretty clearly as to which kit works with which turbo.

I just looked for you:
http://www.gpopshop.com/mitsubishikits.html
and it looks like the same kit works.

TurboMiatKid 12-05-2006 10:11 AM

Kit should be here in 2 days:)

TurboMiatKid 12-06-2006 06:53 PM
