Cool Tell me everything you know about Datsun Z cars

My quest for v8 swap has forced me to start looking at pre-76 cars. Pre-smog and pre-**** CA laws is the only way to go.

Anyways, I know there are a few here that are into Datsun Z cars. My main question is: what are the hands down best forums/sites to visit to read up on these cars, and most importantly v8 swaps for them. I want to DIY as much as possible, and prefer an LSx swap, but open to other motor swaps as well.

If there is a MT.net for Datsuns that is EXACTLY what I want.
So post up links or let me know what you know.
Also any feedback on these cars in general is appreciated: their weaknesses, problems, etc.

I'm looking around and pricing these things at the moment. Most sellers etiher don't have titles to them, or selling a complete tub of **** rust bucket that barely even resembles a datsun, and the ones with clean/nice ones want eleventy birrion dorrars for them because apparently these cars were hand crafted by God himself in their opinion.
Thanx

I consider myself a "Car enthusiast", I know its embarassing. I have spent time on quite a few different car forums. Geo metros, Honda Fit, Kia, Hyundai, several Mazda and Miata forums, local forums for SC, and NY, plus a few for scooters. None of them are like this one in any way.

Plus a few for Cavaliers.

Yeah, I probably wont find another MT.net. Its cool though, I only really want technical info to get my (hopefully) future 240z from junkyard beater to sexy beast v8 BOSS status lol.

So far basic google search yields eleventy billion hits. I want to know the good ones so I don't have to join a shitton of forums and sift through horseshit to find the one that will actually be very technical and informative.

What I found so far:

zcar.com
zdriver.com
classiczcars.com
hybridz.org
zclub.net
nissanforums.com
viczcar.com

any of those good?

zdriver.com has a V8 swap section. Classiczcars looks to be more of a keep it stock style forum judging from this post. HybridZ seems to have a lot of traffic and has a V8 section like zdriver does. Zclub is shiny, viczcar is small and Australian, and nissanforums isn't as S30 specific as I would like if I where looking for a new forum. I'd go with Zdriver or hybrudz.

My suggestion? Research on those forums for answer, but put your build thread here. We know you, so we won't ignore you or assume you know nothing, and there's plenty of automotive knowledge on this forum, z related or not. There won't be any "zomg you're destroying one of God's creations!" comments either.

Your looking for a 74.5?-? with the stronger rear diff. They are really cool cars and I started a v8 swap on one but moved to Texas and had to sell the project. Hybridz.org was the best site I could find back in the day. I give this project 2 thumbs up.

I know years ago at the machine shop we had a few vintage club racers with Z cars. Really good bossy and chassis. The vintage guys seem to like showing off. I as in the market at the time fora street toy and they told me to pick up a used race z. Good everything. Cheap cause no sane person wants a race car used. But for building on. God conditon

I used to share a shop with a guy who had a turbo 280 motor in a 260 and it was pretty quick. We've had some good luck buying old Zes by finding them sitting in a yard and knocking on the door and asking if they want to sell them. There's nothing like someone offering you $ for a car in your yard that's not running anyways.

I had a buddy buy a 280zx from the salvation army for $150. It was a rust bucket but just needed a length of fuel hose and he drove it home. He ended up gettign drunk and trying to show off and doing a burn out with the front end on a wall. It made a ton of smoke and was actually pretty fun to watch but it never ran again after that lol.

There's actually one just up the street from me that's been sitting for at least 3 years now. Every time I go down there to ask no one is home.
Maybe that will work out soon, cause most of the ones I called about from Craigslist are owned by inbred rednecks who don't even know what a title is, let alone have one for the car.

That's not a bad idea. Guess I'll have to resort to that. I was just going to ask what year it is before anything though because if its newer than 75 I don't want it.

Anyways browzing HybridZ v8 section I'm distracted like a kid in a candy store: hundreds of v8 swap threads, literally. HORY CHET!! I got about 4 years worth of reading to do lol.

Another classic Japanese car to American V8 swap guy eh? Good luck, I'd LOVE me some Z car in V8 form. Too bad you are on the other side of the country, I should be getting done with my 1st gen RX7 V8 swap within 6 months, now that I am back into a stable job.
